A Country D. J. (Disk Jockey)
Un Operador de Radio Campestre
1. I‘m getting up with my next door
neighbours, turning off the late
show and hitting the hay.
I‘ve got to sign on the radio station.
I‘m what‘s known as a Country D. J.
Nothing in the house but some
instant coffee, doughnuts left from
early yesterday; ain‘t exactly what
you‘d call a going made breakfast,
but rich boys don‘t play Country
D. J.
Chorus:
Earphones, microphones, telephones,
backbones, just about to break now.
Anyday phonographs, photographs,
autographs, belly laughs, but the
tab‘s sure getting written this way.
Lord have mercy on a Country D.
J.
1. Two fan letters in my box this
morning. Note from the boss says
cut down the gab; woman wrote in
and asked for a song for another
woman‘s husband driving a cab.
News machine must‘ve run out of
paper, last thing I have is the
midnight report, weather forecast
says warm and sunny; funny it
was snowing when I came in the
door.
2. Another disk jockey taught me the
business, showed me how to talk
and the things to do.
Poor old boy passed away last
Monday. Old age got‘in at the age
of twenty-two. Thirty more
seconds and the flute‘ll start
playing. Turntable‘s ready, got my
records at hand.
I still get a thrill every morning
when I tell‘em: Howdy there
friends out in Radio Land.
3. Me estoy levantando con mis vecinos,
apagando la presentación
nocturna y yéndose a dormir.
Coro:
Audífonos, micrófonos, teléfonos,
espaldas, están para romperse ahora.
Cualquier día los fónofrafos, fotógrafos,
autografías, carcajadas, pero la libreta
por seguro se está escribiendo de esta
forma. Señor, ten misericordia de un
operador de Radio campestre.
1. Dos cartas de aficionados en mi
apartado esta mañana. Una nota del
jefe dice: Corta el bla-bla; una mujer
escribió y pidió un canto para el
esposo de otra mujer, que maneja un
taxi (taxi-cab). El teletipo debe
haberse quedado sin papel, lo
último que tengo es el reporte de
media noche, el reporte del tiempo
dice: Calor y sol; ¡chistoso! estaba
nevando cuando entré en la
puerta.
2. Otro operador de radio campestre
me enseñó el oficio, me enseñó a
hablar y las otras cosas que hacer.
Pobre viejo muchacho murió el
lunes pasado. La vejez lo agarró a
la edad de 22. Dentro de treinta
segundos la flauta empezará a
sonar (fúnebre). La tornamesa
está lista; tengo mis discos en
mano. Todavía tiemblo cada
mañana cuando les digo: Hola,
amigos, en Radiolandia.
Are you sure that Ralph Emery and Charlie Douglas got started this way? I‘ll
tell you, I have to do everything around here: Sign on, sign off, pick out
records, pick up trash, cut comercials, cut the grass, carry out orders, carry
out garbage, answer to the boss, answer the phone…Uh! ―Good morning,
Radio Station. No ma‘am. Porter Wagner is not married to Dotty Partten.
Thank you for calling.‖ I‘ll tell you what. I‘m gonna quit and get a real job: I‘m
gonna pump gas. That‘s where the money is anyway. Radio… Booo on radio!
Ha, ha, ha.
