Conclusions: Findings from this study suggest there could be a set of core competencies for
revalidation of pharmacists and technicians as well as role/sector specific competencies. CPD
and appraisal were both identified as possible components of revalidation, although further
research is necessary to confirm the role of employers and the pharmacy regulator in
undertaking assessments. As there appears to be some variation in how pharmacists and
technicians envisage a process for revalidation, findings from this study may help to inform the
pharmacy profession’s strategy for implementing fitness to practise assessments in the future.
