Precision in a very confined space
Coil springs – precision from
the beginning to the end
The SCHERDEL coil springs are one
component of the two-piece oil distribution
rings. They have a very good oil
scraping effect in the cylinder system
without provoking any form of wear.
The springs thus contribute to reduce
the oil consumption and to improve the
environmental compatibility of the combustion
engine. Thanks to our long-lasting
experience and to our progressive
research and development work, we
are able to produce springs with a
diameter of less than 1.0 mm. At the
same time, we are able to meet
extremely strict tangential load tolerances
and to achieve setting losses
that are considerably lower than the
required standards with the help of specially
developed raw material.
A two-piece oil distribution ring with a chemically
deburred spring and a Teflon hose.
A spring for each application
For the production of spring elements
for two-piece oil distribution rings, we
use mainly alloyed material with a
round wire section.
The following standard types according
to ISO 6626 are available:
• not centerless ground
with one pitch
• centerless ground with
one pitch
• centerless ground with
centre portion (two pitches).
Miniflex expanders –
small parts, big impact
In principle, the SCHERDEL Miniflex
expanders have the same purpose as
coil springs, however these elements
are used in the three-part oil distribution
rings (two side rails and one spring).
Miniflex expanders are limited to use in
gasoline engines and can be a costsaving
alternative compared with the
two-piece ring systems. The fact that
we have our own machinery department
is very advantageous especially
for the realization of the Miniflex production
installations. On these special
machines, SCHERDEL has produced
springs with a nominal assembly height
of only 1.5 mm to series level. Our permanent
striving for innovation is very
important in order to position and
strengthen our Group in the international
markets.
Each spring has its
specific characteristics
SCHERDEL always offers high-quality
products taking into account the
requirements of its customers. The
Miniflex section comprises in particular
nitration-hardened and non nitrationhardened
spring types with a nominal
assembly height of 1.5 to 4.0 mm.
Thanks to our in-house toolroom, it is
possible to produce all of the spring
designs that are common in today’s
market. In most cases, stainless steel is
used as a raw material.
PC98 expanders – innovation
based on experience
Even though in recent years this
expander type was often replaced by
Miniflex expanders, SCHERDEL has
stood by this reliable product. This
guarantees a high reliability, in particular
in the Aftermarket business. Various
spring types with a nominal height of
2.0 to 4.0 mm are produced.
A three-piece oil distribution ring with a non
nitration-hardened Miniflex spring.
We also propose flat wire shapes
for special requirements relating
to high surface pressure (ring/
cylinder wall) and extremely
small assembly spaces. Special
designs with an additional chemical
deburring or a Teflon hose complete
our coil spring range.
