Office <strong>of</strong> Public Information<br />
The Office <strong>of</strong> Public Information coordinates the <strong>Court</strong>’s<br />
communications efforts. The <strong>of</strong>fice manages the <strong>Court</strong>’s<br />
main Web site, publishes the <strong>Court</strong>’s print publications,<br />
corresponds with constituents, responds to media inquiries,<br />
staffs the <strong>Court</strong>’s main phone lines and receptionist desk, and<br />
writes articles about court cases and administrative activities<br />
for distribution as news releases, guest articles and Web<br />
content.<br />
<strong>2006</strong> began with the launch <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Court</strong>’s new Web site,<br />
www.supremecourt<strong>of</strong>ohio.gov, the culmination <strong>of</strong> a nearly<br />
year-long project by the Office <strong>of</strong> Public Information in<br />
partnership with the <strong>Court</strong>’s Information Technology staff.<br />
The <strong>of</strong>fice finalized the application <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Court</strong>’s new<br />
graphic design system in <strong>2006</strong>, publishing a revised set <strong>of</strong><br />
informational brochures for the Law Library, a new brochure<br />
on the Kingsley A. Taft Map Room, and applying the graphic<br />
design identity to a number <strong>of</strong> other publications and visible<br />
representations <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Court</strong>, most notably the Web site.<br />
In December, the <strong>of</strong>fice<br />
held the second annual<br />
Judges & Journalists Workshop<br />
at the <strong>Ohio</strong> Judicial Center.<br />
The workshop is a one-day<br />
seminar for judges and the<br />
media around the state<br />
designed to increase public<br />
trust and confidence in the<br />
judiciary by enhancing the<br />
relationship between judges<br />
and journalists.<br />
Also in <strong>2006</strong>, Public<br />
Jurists, seated in the “gallery,” play the role <strong>of</strong> reporters covering a trial Information staff attended<br />
during the Judges & Journalists Workshop in December.<br />

Public Information Officers, where they were selected to<br />
host the 2007 CCPIO meeting at the <strong>Ohio</strong> Judicial Center in<br />
Columbus.<br />
In <strong>2006</strong>, the Office <strong>of</strong> Public Information wrote and<br />
mailed 240 written responses to constituent letters and<br />
e-mails; researched, wrote and distributed 345 previews <strong>of</strong><br />
oral arguments before the <strong>Court</strong> and summaries <strong>of</strong> merit<br />
decisions; fielded 912 media inquiries; answered nearly<br />
37,000 phone calls on the <strong>Court</strong>’s main lines; and researched,<br />
wrote and distributed 81 news releases.<br />
