OFFICE OF COURT SECURITY<br />
The Office <strong>of</strong> <strong>Court</strong> Security oversees the Building Security<br />
Section and the Security Services Section. This <strong>of</strong>fice manages<br />
a grant program through which the staff provides 43 security<br />
assessments <strong>of</strong> local court facilities, as well as access to basic<br />
bailiff training at the <strong>Ohio</strong> Peace Officer Training Academy<br />
for 21 local court employees.<br />
The Building Security Section is responsible for the<br />
physical security <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Ohio</strong> Judicial Center and the security<br />
and safety <strong>of</strong> all employees and visitors to the facility. This<br />
section conducted security screenings <strong>of</strong> about 52,000 people<br />
entering the <strong>Ohio</strong> Judicial Center in <strong>2006</strong>. The marshal is<br />
responsible for the safety and security <strong>of</strong> the Justices while<br />
they are on <strong>of</strong>ficial business within the state. This section also<br />
is responsible for security during special events, operation <strong>of</strong><br />
the loading dock, and management <strong>of</strong> the fleet vehicles used<br />
by employees for business travel.<br />
The Security Services Section is responsible for providing<br />
security support and security consulting services to local<br />
courts in <strong>Ohio</strong>, including physical security surveys <strong>of</strong> existing<br />
courts, as well as assistance in construction-phase security<br />
planning. This section also provided security training to<br />
600 local court employees in <strong>2006</strong> in security screening<br />
(magnetometers and X-ray equipment), TASERs, personal<br />
protection, high-threat trial planning, and physical security<br />
facility and equipment issues.<br />
