Advisory Committee on Technology & the <strong>Court</strong>s<br />
Infrastructure & Interoperability Subcommittee<br />
During <strong>2006</strong>, the Technology Services Section provided<br />
staff assistance to the Advisory Committee on Technology<br />
& the <strong>Court</strong>s, which adopted revised operating procedures<br />
in accordance with the <strong>Supreme</strong> <strong>Court</strong> policies on advisory<br />
committees, and approved a recommendation from the<br />
Infrastructure & Interoperability Subcommittee on the<br />
connectivity aspects <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>Court</strong>s Network.<br />
Additionally, the advisory committee worked to produce<br />
natural-language guidebooks and other publications for court<br />
decision-makers on technology issues. In an effort to collect<br />
information on possible uses <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>Court</strong>s Network<br />
by court personnel, the Infrastructure & Interoperability<br />
Subcommittee conducted feedback sessions throughout the<br />
state. About 200 people attended the 10 feedback sessions in<br />
February and March <strong>2006</strong>.<br />
The advisory committee accepted the <strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>Court</strong>s<br />
Network requirements drafted by the Infrastructure &<br />
Interoperability Subcommittee. Parts <strong>of</strong> the requirements<br />
were incorporated into the request for proposals for the<br />
pro<strong>of</strong>-<strong>of</strong>-concept phase <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>Court</strong>s Network.<br />
Finally, the Infrastructure & Interoperability<br />
Subcommittee, having fulfilled its mission and goals, was<br />
deactivated by the advisory committee.<br />

Standards Subcommittee<br />
The Standards Subcommittee <strong>of</strong> the advisory committee<br />
completed a 90-day comment period in <strong>2006</strong> on proposed<br />
Electronic Filing Standards and accepted a revised draft.<br />
The completed standards and related documentation are<br />
expected to be presented to the advisory committee in early<br />
2007.<br />
The Standards Subcommittee also provisionally approved<br />
two electronic filing pilot projects in the Lake County Juvenile<br />
<strong>Court</strong> and the Montgomery County Common Pleas <strong>Court</strong>;<br />
reviewed and <strong>of</strong>fered feedback on the uniform electronic<br />
citation numbering proposal presented by the <strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>State</strong><br />
Highway Patrol; and assisted the Advisory Committee on<br />
<strong>Court</strong> Security & Emergency Preparedness in creating a plan<br />
for dealing with an avian flu pandemic.<br />
In addition, the Standards Subcommittee reviewed<br />
facsimile filing rules submitted by courts throughout the state<br />
to ensure compliance with the Facsimile Filing Standards, and<br />
began discussing procedures for ensuring compliance with<br />
the Civil, Criminal, and Traffic Functional Case Management<br />
System Standards.<br />
