Meetings & Events<br />
The Meetings & Events Work Group is responsible<br />
for scheduling and planning conference rooms, special<br />
functions, and coordinating and supporting interior and<br />
exterior riverfront events. The group also lends assistance for<br />
<strong>of</strong>f-site meetings, conferences and seminars on an as-needed<br />
basis for <strong>Ohio</strong> Judicial Center staff. Meetings & Events staff<br />
also set up the <strong>Court</strong>room, robing room, deliberation room<br />
and attorney waiting room on days the <strong>Supreme</strong> <strong>Court</strong> is in<br />
session.<br />
In <strong>2006</strong>, the group set up 1,519 meetings, hosting<br />
approximately 18,915 participants.<br />
To further the convenience <strong>of</strong> reserving and using <strong>Ohio</strong><br />
Judicial Center resources, the Meetings & Events Work<br />
Group, along with Information Technology staff, developed<br />
new meeting room management s<strong>of</strong>tware and trained select<br />
administrative staff on its use.<br />
Meetings and conferences supported by this work group<br />
include functions for pr<strong>of</strong>essional organizations in the<br />
legal community, including the American Bar Association,<br />
<strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>State</strong> Bar Foundation, Columbus Bar Association,<br />
<strong>Ohio</strong> Association <strong>of</strong> Magistrates, <strong>Ohio</strong> Association for <strong>Court</strong><br />
Administrators, <strong>Ohio</strong> Association for Probate, Juvenile &<br />
Domestic Relation <strong>Court</strong> Judges, American College <strong>of</strong> Trial<br />
Lawyers, National Institute <strong>of</strong> Corrections Advisory Board and<br />
the National Conference <strong>of</strong> Bar Examiners.<br />
The <strong>Ohio</strong> Judicial Center Meetings & Events staff also<br />
has supported many universities and law schools. Successful<br />
events held at the <strong>Ohio</strong> Judicial Center include moot court,<br />
sponsored by the Moritz College <strong>of</strong> Law at The <strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>State</strong><br />
University, events sponsored by Capital University Law School<br />
and training through the <strong>Ohio</strong> Center for Law Related<br />
Education, <strong>Ohio</strong> Regional Association <strong>of</strong> Law Libraries, <strong>Ohio</strong><br />
Youth in Government, <strong>Ohio</strong> Wesleyan University and the<br />
University <strong>of</strong> Toledo.<br />
Special events included a visit by Ukrainian judges and<br />
judicial delegates sponsored by the U.S. Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>State</strong>.<br />
Riverfront events coordinated with the city <strong>of</strong> Columbus<br />
and other organizers include the Komen Columbus Race for<br />
the Cure, Columbus Arts Festival, Festival Latino, Pride March<br />
& Festival, Red White & Boom, Jazz & Rib Fest and First Night<br />
Columbus.<br />
As recognition <strong>of</strong> his efforts, Michael Mason, meetings<br />
assistant, was honored with a 2005 Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Excellence<br />
Award.<br />
