Night Vision Imaging System<br />

<strong>The</strong> MAF lacks a standard NVIS for MAF tanker<br />

cockpits and boom operator positions. KC-135<br />

exterior lighting is not night vision-compatible,<br />

limiting the receiver’s ability to utilize their<br />

existing night vision systems. This limits<br />

the ability to perform lights-out air refueling<br />

operations at night. All KC-135 aircraft must<br />

have an NVD-compatible cockpit, boom pod,<br />

and external lighting. This is included in the<br />

<strong>Air</strong>craft Extension Program.<br />
