No information on this body style has been
uncovered, so far. Even Butlers “History of Hudson”
has no information. There is the possibility it
was made by Cantrell, a Long Island, NY, body
maker. There is a photo of a 1934 Terraplane station
wagon with a body made by this body builder.
Cantrell bodies could be found on many different
makes such as Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler,
DeSoto, Essex, Franklin, GMC, Graham-Paige, Hudson,
International, LaSalle, Nash, Packard, Pierce-Arrow,
Plymouth, Rolls-Royce, Studebaker, Terraplane,
Willys and Wolverine chassis from the teens through
the fifties.
Another example of an Essex custom
body. This may, however, be a Dover.
Research has found nothing on the Fisk
Allen Company that built it.
It is most likely this was a contract job
- either from a dealer in the area or a
customer who wanted a specialized body.
Custom bodies, such as this and the
example above, were quite common in
the 1920’s and even into the 30’s. Most
were built for the “upper” class in such
up-scale neighborhoods as were found on
Long Island, NY, the North Shore of
Massachusetts and others.
