General Notes for the Original Edition
NOTE 1: For additions and corrections to this Handbook since these notes were published see pages VII and
VIII.
NOTE 2: August 2006 - Access to the Carl Weber collection has given us data such as bulletins giving shipping
weights, accessories and options and other material.
Ia. 1910-1930 - Serial numbers and body styles
< Hudson >
There were three major sources, all Hudson used for this period to determine serial numbers and body styles:
(1) Reference Sheet # 17 (REV) (MAR 26)
This source, supplied by John Cullity (MA), was copied from a 1926 Hudson-Essex shop manual. It suffered mainly, in
that there were no dates given after the 1916 Hudson 6-40 Model G. This source has caused confusion in other presentations
of Hudson serial numbers
(2) 1918 Hudson Master Parts Manual
The data contained in this listing, supplied by Earl Huffman (NE), enabled us to better understand source # 1. This 1918
listing, updated to include 1919 and 1920, also supplied some of the right hand drive (RHD) starting serial numbers It also
proved that there were two Models in 1916 - the Model G Six-40 and the Model H Super-Six.
3) Reference Sheet #17 (1930)
This source was supplied by Dave Bullock (NJ). These pages provided data from 1920 to 1930 and was particularly helpful
in that all years were dated.
lb. 1910-1930 - Electrical and fuel system data sources:
1) Electrical system data was obtained from the pages of a 1931 National Automotive Service manual, which covers the
period 1917-1930. Some of the later data was cross-checked with a 1936 Hollanders Interchange manual supplied b, Bill Edgett
(ME).
2) No fuel system data has been found for this period. Information on these carburetors may be obtained from Dyke
Automotive Encyclopedias published during these years. Tho the carburetors were Hudson one source lists Zenith for 1916,
Detroit from 1917 through 1922 and Stewart 1923 through 1926. A list is supplied at the end of this note section
IIa. 1930-1950 - Serial numbers and body data
I) For this period four major sources were utilized:
a) 1927-1950 Master Parts Interchange Book
b) 1930-36 Hudson Master Body Group Parts Book
c) 1930-39 Hudson Master Chassis Group Parts Book
d) 1940-42 Hudson Master Group Parts Book
2) Factory prices were obtained from a 1941 Blue Book of Used Car Prices. This booklet was especially helpful i determining
the prices of Hudson and Terraplane commercial Models. For the 1946-1957 period Krause Publication "Standard Catalog of
American Cars - 1946-1975" was consulted for clarification of body styles and prices found elsewhere.
