RULE 13: MODIFIED/ORTHODOX SOFTBALL PLAYING RULES<br />
a) The <strong>Softball</strong> rules as outlined in the <strong>Softball</strong> Canada Rule Book will govern<br />
all Pre-Provincial and Provincial Championships, except where superseded<br />
by these <strong>Softball</strong> <strong>Saskatchewan</strong> Modified/Orthodox Playing Rules.<br />
b) Team Roster is set at a maximum of twenty (20) players.<br />
c) Teams must have three (3) females and six (6) males in the game at all<br />
times. Substitutions will be male for male and female for female.<br />
d) Pitching Regulations:<br />
1) Pitching distance 43 ft.<br />
2) Pitchers can be male or female.<br />
3) The release of the ball must be on the first forward swing of the<br />
pitching arm past the hip. The release must have a complete,<br />
smooth follow through with no abrupt stop of the arm near the hip.<br />
4) The ball must not be outside the pitcher's wrist at the top of the<br />
backswing and during the complete forward delivery.<br />
5) On the forward swing of the pitching arm, the elbow must be<br />
locked at the point of release, and the driving hip must be squared<br />
to home plate when the ball is released.<br />
6) The pitcher may take the ball behind the back on the backswing.<br />
7) The pitch is completed with a step toward the batter.<br />
8) The pitcher must not make any motion to pitch without<br />
immediately delivering the ball to the batter.<br />
9) The pitcher must not use a rocker motion in which, after having<br />
the ball in both hands in the pitching position, the pitcher removes<br />
one hand from the ball, takes a backward and forward swing, and<br />
returns the ball to both hands from the front of the body.<br />
10) The pitcher must not use a windup which there is a step or reversal<br />
of the forward motion.<br />
11) The pitcher must not use a windmill or slingshot type pitch, or<br />
make a complete revolution in delivery.<br />
12) The pitcher must not continue to windup after taking the forward<br />
step, which is simultaneous with the release of the ball.<br />
13) The pitcher should appear to be throwing a bowling ball.<br />
14) The pitcher should have the pitching arm pointing straight back<br />
with the inside of the elbow and top of the bicep muscle pointing<br />
down or slightly to the rear.<br />
e) Metal cleats are not to be used.<br />
f) For safety reasons the following rules apply when bunting a ball:<br />
i) No slap bunting<br />
ii) Once a batter has indicated a bunt, no swing is allowed.<br />
Effect: The batter shall be called out, the ball is dead and the player is<br />
ejected from the game.<br />
g) All Provincial Playoff Modified/Orthodox games will end after five (5)<br />
innings of play if there is a difference of ten (10) runs.<br />
