take <strong>the</strong> party going to Vancouver and with it he is to continue.<br />
Rained a little at night and some today. Our Pluvimeter full this<br />

Articles rec'd from Langley as follows viz:<br />
323 bags peas 35 bushels 1 keg pork 4 gallons<br />
24 bags potatoes 35 bushels 1 bag ear corn and onions<br />
3 bags wheat 5 bushels 2 kegs lard 2 gal. each<br />
1 bag corn 1Y2 bushels some sausages<br />
10 mats 20 axes repaired<br />
2 hooks 1 bag flour<br />
29th. Thursday. The men have rested after <strong>the</strong>ir voyage. Indians<br />
are ga<strong>the</strong>ring strong about us and gambling. We have at least<br />
ught men on <strong>the</strong> ground <strong>of</strong> six different tribes. 'rhe wea<strong>the</strong>r clear all<br />
night and today it was fair and charming.<br />
30th. Friday. Got <strong>the</strong> dung put on our potatoes field and hay<br />
brought into <strong>the</strong> stable. Still Indians coming' in, some not sure <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong>mselves. Delightful wea<strong>the</strong>r.<br />
31st. Saturday. Got more fire"'ood brought home. The Indians<br />
are still coming in, and a small party went home. The 'wea<strong>the</strong>r has<br />
been fair and 'warm all day, <strong>the</strong> night was clear and a little cold.<br />
The trade from <strong>the</strong> 20th. Instant is as follows:<br />
44 large beaver, 24 small do., 2 fishers, 2 martins, 1 mink, 27 1\lusquash,<br />
11 land otters, 23 raccoons, 1 elk skin, 2 chiv. do.<br />
Feb. 1st. Sunday. 'Ve have had a great party <strong>of</strong> Indians about us<br />
fill day. This morning <strong>the</strong> chiefs attended on me for <strong>the</strong> sake <strong>of</strong> getting<br />
information <strong>of</strong> living well and <strong>the</strong>re was a young man who understood<br />
<strong>the</strong> Flat Head Language among <strong>the</strong> party I thought proper to<br />
gin <strong>the</strong>m instructions respecting onr duty to <strong>the</strong> giver <strong>of</strong> Life as also<br />
<strong>the</strong> dut~· to one ano<strong>the</strong>r. All what I said was taken in good part and<br />
fair promises for <strong>the</strong> future. A lad a son <strong>of</strong> a chief, was ordered from<br />
<strong>the</strong> Fort <strong>by</strong> me on account <strong>of</strong> his having connections with his stepmo<strong>the</strong>r<br />
unknown I believe to <strong>the</strong> Fa<strong>the</strong>r who is no less than <strong>the</strong> great<br />
Chief Challacum. The dance was well conducted and all behaved well.<br />
This devotional mode was for <strong>the</strong> present adapted and given to Indians<br />
as a mark <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir showing <strong>the</strong>y were pleased that <strong>the</strong>y kIlC"w<br />
who <strong>the</strong>ir Creator was. There was at least three hundred Indians on<br />
<strong>the</strong> ground. It rained during <strong>the</strong> night and <strong>the</strong> day was clowdy.<br />
