<strong>Told</strong> <strong>by</strong> <strong>the</strong> Pioneers<br />
Three bushels <strong>of</strong> peas sowed. Challacum is building a hut next to ours<br />
that is out for <strong>the</strong> strangers. Indians all away. Fair wea<strong>the</strong>r.<br />
9th. Thursday. The plougher and sower continues <strong>the</strong>ir work. The<br />
rest <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> men employed about <strong>the</strong> place. Challacum away to his<br />
land. Three more bushels <strong>of</strong> peas sowed. Partial showers in <strong>the</strong><br />
course <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> day.<br />
10th. Friday. The same employment for all hands. T·wo and a<br />
half bushels <strong>of</strong> peas sowed making 12 and a half in <strong>the</strong> ground belongig<br />
to our last year crop. Very few Indians about us. We had a<br />
~hower <strong>of</strong> rain and <strong>the</strong>n hail in <strong>the</strong> afternoon.<br />
11th. Saturday. 3 bushels <strong>of</strong> Langley peas sowed. Work getting<br />
on as usual. Indians do little or nothing. It rained some in course<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> day. I am sorry to say that poor Ouvre is still ailing and appears<br />
not sound in mind.<br />
12th. Sunday. All quiet about us. Wea<strong>the</strong>r fair. Our bottle out<br />
for <strong>the</strong> rain was found full this morning.<br />
13th. jlonday. Louis at <strong>the</strong> plough. :Mowat sowing and ha1TO'Ving.<br />
Three men cutting' wood . McDonald working about <strong>the</strong> place.<br />
Ouvre a little bit better in health. Three more bushels <strong>of</strong> Langley<br />
peas sowed. Thick fog this morning. The night ra<strong>the</strong>r cold. Fair day.<br />
14th. Tuesday. The fence wood all on <strong>the</strong> ground where it is wanted.<br />
The last one and one half bushel peas making planted as follows:<br />
12Y2 bushels <strong>of</strong> Xesqually peas.<br />
'I <strong>of</strong> Langley do.<br />
~o bushels Total. besides <strong>the</strong> Y2 bushels peas we have 2 ditto <strong>of</strong> barley<br />
in <strong>the</strong> ground. ~IcDonald was busy plaining boards for lining my<br />
sitting room. The wea<strong>the</strong>r as yesterday.<br />
15th. ·Wednesday. The ploughers have been busy at work with<br />
three o<strong>the</strong>rs putting up a fence, 2 bushels <strong>of</strong> barley sowed and <strong>the</strong><br />
ground harrowed. Oune still unwell. The wea<strong>the</strong>r fair at inter.<br />
16th. Thursday. The last barley sowed making 6 kegs in <strong>the</strong><br />
ground we also have a gal. <strong>of</strong> oats. Our duty <strong>of</strong> sowing is now over<br />
und our ground seems to be in fine order. Traded a few beaver skins<br />
from Indians nigh us. Fair wea<strong>the</strong>r.<br />
17th. Friday. This being Good Friday I did not order <strong>the</strong> men to<br />
work excepting a little duty about <strong>the</strong> house. Sinneteeyae has arrived<br />
with his family, etc. and as usual troublesome in <strong>the</strong> way <strong>of</strong><br />
getting rum. The wea<strong>the</strong>r fair in <strong>the</strong> morning partial showers in <strong>the</strong><br />
afternoon. The seed in <strong>the</strong> ground as follows:<br />
20 bushels <strong>of</strong> peas 35 bushels potatoes<br />
10 " fall wheat 5" red wheat<br />
" corn 6 " barley<br />
