this Indian makes <strong>the</strong> great man, and at <strong>the</strong> best he is here about as<br />

12th. Thursday. A new fence is making round a small spot <strong>of</strong><br />
ground intended for a kitchen garden which was again ploughed over.<br />
Ouvre has been employed making horse collars. Thi:,; afternoon Louis<br />
Delonias arrived from Langley sent hi<strong>the</strong>r as desired <strong>by</strong> ::\11'. Chief<br />
Factor McLaughlin to make up my seventh man. :JIr. Yale writes<br />
me that <strong>the</strong> party sent from here on <strong>the</strong> 10th ult. got safe to <strong>the</strong>m, and<br />
that all is well about him. Delightful wea<strong>the</strong>r-fogg~' mornings.<br />
13th. Friday. The men employed as usual about <strong>the</strong> fence. Fair<br />
wea<strong>the</strong>r.<br />
14th. Saturday. Louis, Dominque, Delonias, and Quenelle have been<br />
busy at getting a fence up round a spot <strong>of</strong> ground west <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fort.<br />
2\10wat kept at harrowing. Anawiscun and made up a few bales<br />
<strong>of</strong> furs. The ,\-ea<strong>the</strong>r cloudy a part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> day and a little rain fell.<br />
15th. Sunday. The Indians assembled here for <strong>the</strong> day. The<br />

16th. .Monday. Our fence round <strong>the</strong> west garden completed and<br />
<strong>the</strong> men hm-e begun to fence <strong>the</strong> ground laid up for our potatoes. The<br />
packs well done and everything in a forward state for meeting <strong>the</strong><br />
vessel. Fair wea<strong>the</strong>l'. Three kegs <strong>of</strong> potatoes put iBto <strong>the</strong> ,,-est garden.<br />
17th. Tuesday. The harrowing continued and <strong>the</strong> fence work also.<br />
The wea<strong>the</strong>r cloudy.<br />

18th. 'Vednesday. The same routine <strong>of</strong> employment for all hands.<br />
It rained during <strong>the</strong> night. 'Ve put up a few garden seed such as radishes,<br />
carrots, cabbages, turnips, onions, cresses lettuce, brown corn,<br />
and a keg <strong>of</strong> potatoes. Our apple plants look well.<br />
19th. Thursday. The work getting on as usual. :Jlore seeds put in<br />
<strong>the</strong> garden. Traded a few beayer skins. :Jlore rain in <strong>the</strong> day and<br />
night. Our Pluvimeter full.<br />
20th. Friday. No change in our duties. Indians han come in but<br />
lJrought ver~- little to trade. 'Ve got <strong>the</strong> meat <strong>of</strong> two animals. Ra<strong>the</strong>r<br />
cold during <strong>the</strong> night. The wea<strong>the</strong>r today has been partially<br />
cloudy.<br />
21st. Saturday. The fence round <strong>the</strong> potatoe field completed and<br />
<strong>the</strong> field east <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> lake is not ready for <strong>the</strong> second ploughing. Our<br />
wheat looks well. Challacum is arrived and I am told that <strong>the</strong> thief <strong>of</strong><br />
