April 1st. vVednesday. Two men splitting fence polls. Olle sowing<br />
and harrowing, one ploughing, ~IcDonald always working at making<br />
and repairing useful articles. ,'~e put in 21 quarts <strong>of</strong> clean<br />
wheat and four bushels. Our garden seeds are coming on well. Plomondon's<br />
bro<strong>the</strong>r-in-law has arrived from ,Yahoo and (reports) that<br />
<strong>the</strong> Cadboro is on her wav here. Traded a few beaver skins from <strong>the</strong><br />

2nd. Thursday. The same employment for <strong>the</strong> men. A bushel <strong>of</strong><br />
\\'heat put again into <strong>the</strong> above field. Louis is !lOW ploughing <strong>the</strong> field<br />
on <strong>the</strong> Nesqually road in order to sow our peas. Fair weatlwr.<br />

April 5th. Sunda~'. This moming Xeidlam and <strong>the</strong> Borg-in alTin>tl<br />

from Cape Flattery. There has been five different tribes on <strong>the</strong><br />

6th. Monday. Three men at <strong>the</strong> fence, one sowing and harrowing,<br />
one ploughing, one working about <strong>the</strong> place and one attending to <strong>the</strong><br />
Indians. ,Ve have got about three and one half gallons <strong>of</strong> Indian corn<br />
sowed <strong>by</strong> <strong>the</strong> women. The wea<strong>the</strong>r dowd\' Xeidlam came back and<br />

7th. Tuesday. Four bushels <strong>of</strong> peas sowed. The men employed as<br />
lisual. A party <strong>of</strong> Chickaylitz arrived and traded a dozen <strong>of</strong> skins<br />
most <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m for rum. They were drunk and fighting among <strong>the</strong>mselves<br />
on <strong>the</strong> beach. Some rain fell in course <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> day Ouvre sick.<br />
