long-term <strong>and</strong> multi-dimensional support, from the academic to the social.<br />
− College Track (http://www.collegetrack.org/main/). This program engages students from<br />
the summer before they start high school through the next 8 years to support their goals<br />
<strong>of</strong> going to college <strong>and</strong> graduating. They focus on students who are the first in their<br />
families to earn a college degree. The program complements high school tutoring <strong>and</strong><br />
college application <strong>and</strong> support programs with a Student Life program that engages them<br />
in service learning, arts, leadership opportunities, <strong>and</strong> cultural trips.<br />
− KIPP Through College (http://www.kipp.org/ktc). The KIPP secondary program has<br />
exp<strong>and</strong>ed to provide a set <strong>of</strong> academic <strong>and</strong> organizational supports to support college<br />
planning, application, <strong>and</strong> success. These services are <strong>of</strong>fered beginning in middle school<br />
<strong>and</strong> extend through college. The <strong>of</strong>ferings vary by region—Austin, Houston, New York,<br />
Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, <strong>and</strong> Washington, D.C. Graduates participate in<br />
activities such as weekly or annual alumni events, as-needed support around college or<br />
job applications, out-<strong>of</strong>-school job exploration programs, <strong>and</strong> tutoring.<br />
− OneGoal (http://www.onegoalgraduation.org/). This program calls itself a “college<br />
persistence program,” <strong>and</strong> the one goal is college graduation. Led by teachers, the<br />
program emphasizes social support with structured planning to address challenges around<br />
college application <strong>and</strong> initial college adjustment. OneGoal <strong>of</strong>fers a conference to high<br />
school juniors to introduce them to college preparatory activities, help in planning the<br />
college <strong>and</strong> financial aid application process, campus visits, social support from a peer<br />
network, online support <strong>and</strong> planning activities before students begin their freshman year<br />
in college, <strong>and</strong> a reunion during the first winter break <strong>of</strong> freshman year. Eventually,<br />
successful OneGoal “fellows” <strong>of</strong>fer social support to younger students in the program.<br />
− Student Success Academy (http://www.studentsuccessacademy.com). This is an online<br />
interactive program that pairs a high school student with a “personal success consultant,”<br />
a highly successful college student mentor, who can help the high school student navigate<br />
through the process <strong>of</strong> getting into college. The program also includes internship<br />
opportunities <strong>and</strong> a curriculum to help students identify their interests <strong>and</strong> take actions<br />
toward finding <strong>and</strong> building a satisfying career.<br />
• Out-<strong>of</strong>-school programs intended to trigger interest <strong>and</strong> persistence in STEM<br />
pathways. Many programs are intended to engage the interest <strong>and</strong> enthusiasm that, over the<br />
long term, could promote persistence in STEM studies through to a STEM pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
career. Some <strong>of</strong> the programs are also intended to simply instill academic mindsets that<br />
