Deports on the March of Dimes fund, which
is aided substantially each year by theatre
collections, were not encouraging at a luncheon
meeting of county leaders at the Eagle
hotel in Concord. A northern New England
representative of the National Foundation for
Infantile Paralysis, told the gathering that
unless the 1950 campaign was an "unusual
success," the national program to combat
polio might have to be abandoned.
Rev. Robert H. Dunn of Portsmouth, who
played the role of Rev, John Taylor in "Lost
Boundaries," discussed racial prejudice, on
which the film is based, in a talk at Colby
Junior college in New London. He also
brought the film to be shown before students.
A film by the U. S. Steel Co. dealing with
the manufacture of stainless steel and its
uses was shown at a meeting of the Franklin
Rotary club . . . "Colorado Skis," a sound and
color film shot by Steve Koch at skiing areas
in the Rockies, was presented in the Concord
High school auditorium under auspices
of the Concord Ski club.
Ansel N. Sanborn, Carroll county circuit
owner and member of the legislature, spoke
on institutional farms and public safety at
the seventh Institute of Public Affairs at the
University of New Hampshire in Durham .
"Louisiana Story," produced and directed by
Robert Flaherty, was shown at the Institute
of Arts and Sciences in Manchester. A short
subject, "The Hunter," also was on the program.
Propose Annual Issuance
Of Sunday Film Permits
BOSTON—Issuance of Sunday film exhibition
licenses annually instead of weekly was
recommended by members of Independent
Exhibitors, Inc., of New England, following
a discussion of the subject at its December
luncheon meet at the Town House here. Daniel
Murphy, president, appointed Bob Waldman,
Leslie Berdslev and Nat Hochberg members
of a special committee which will study
the proposal and make a report at a later
meeting.
All films distributed in this area are censored
by the Sunday licensing bureau operated
by the department of public safety. All
deletions for Sunday showings are effective
for weekday runs. It was declared that the
procuring of a license for Sunday showings
becomes unnecessary, and that placing licenses
on a yearly basis would facilitate the
operation.
Four new members accepted at the meeting
included Irving Dunn, Granite Square, Manchester,
and Edward Sokolowski, Park,
Nashua, N. H., and Mrs. Muriel Pollard, Mutual,
Saco, and Mrs. Lillian Keegan, Gayety.
