Chemicals Used?<br />

A new organic chemical company produces<br />

organic chemicals that are used widely <strong>in</strong><br />

society. The company is keen to show that these<br />

chemicals can be produced from susta<strong>in</strong>able<br />

sources <strong>in</strong> the future. It is also keen to make the<br />

public aware <strong>of</strong> environmental concerns<br />

associated with certa<strong>in</strong> organic compounds, like<br />

PVC. As a first step, you need to research a<br />

range <strong>of</strong> organic chemicals and their uses so<br />

that you can prepare <strong>in</strong>formation to present to<br />

the public, on behalf <strong>of</strong> the company.<br />

You work as a materials scientist for a large<br />

company that produces a vast range <strong>of</strong> quality<br />

products. To stay ahead <strong>of</strong> its competitors, the<br />

company needs to use the latest technology <strong>in</strong><br />

its products. You have been asked to provide<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation about how the company has done<br />

this over the years. You are go<strong>in</strong>g to research<br />

when certa<strong>in</strong> materials were first used. You are<br />

go<strong>in</strong>g to f<strong>in</strong>d out about how <strong>in</strong>novative materials<br />

have been used, why these materials are special<br />

and why the public may be worried about<br />

products that use nanochemicals.<br />

issues and drawbacks <strong>of</strong> a range <strong>of</strong><br />

or research department may help to put this<br />
