for the song “Uchandida Chete” which
gave me mileage as people got to know
me, as it is also on YouTube, it debuted at
number 32 on top 50 charts in 2012.
“I have also had the opportunity to
perform on tour in Spain on the World
Youth Day for Catholic in 2011, I have
worked with a number of artistes and
through it all I have learned and still am
learning,” he added.
Brian’s music is rich in quality with
an Afro-centric instrumentation and is
pregnant with meaning which he said he
draws inspiration from everyday life.
“What inspires me as a person are
the people around me and things that
happen in our day to day life. Me being
a youth I have a role to play in trying to
conscientise my fellow youths especially
as far as life is concerned.
“Nowadays the youth spend less time
with parents and the only way they can
be taught about life is through music
because wherever they go they will listen
to music, so most of my songs are directed
to them,” he said.
With four albums under his belt namely
“So They Say”, “Ndingatii Zvangu”, “Hausi
Wega” and “Yambirika”, the artiste is
currently riding high with the single
track titled “Zvanyanya”, on which he
castigates parents for domestic violence.
“The institution of marriage is no
longer being respected as it used to and
domestic violence is reported daily. So
we the children are saying to parents
we have had enough and your domestic
violence is affecting our studies and our
peace. It’s an outcry for parents to solve
their differences amicably,” he explained.
He also urged artistes to be steadfast
and exemplary to their followers if they
are to be respected and want to make it in
the industry.
“I being a Christian means everything
that I do has to have Christian values in
it. We were created in the image of God
and being an artiste I really need to be
role model to all those young stars who
look up to me.
Music
“My fellow artistes should improve
lyrical content because bad publicity
sells in America and not here. Zimbabwe
has its own values, which needs to be
preserved.
“That’s why the senior superstar
Oliver Mtukudzi has managed to stay in
the game for such a long time because it’s
because he has managed to uphold those
values,” he said.
He however, bemoaned lack of support
by locals who look down upon artistes
and urged them to support art by buying
original music.
“Zimbabwe has a lot of talent but
the problem is sponsorship. Artistes are
regarded as low class people in society.
And I urge fans or promoters to appreciate
art.
“Fans should buy original music and
give us value for our work and shun
piracy because pirates are stealing from
us,” he said.TP
