<strong>Swinburne</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Technology</strong><br />

The Education Abroad Network’s membership comprises:<br />

■ Manager, Education Abroad (Chair)<br />

■ staff <strong>of</strong> the Education Abroad Offices from both the<br />

Hawthorn and Lilydale campuses<br />

■ an administrative representative from each School.<br />

Examples <strong>of</strong> innovative programs designed to provide<br />

international opportunities for <strong>Swinburne</strong> students include<br />

the Study in Greece program. This program provided<br />

<strong>Swinburne</strong> students with the opportunity to study two<br />

<strong>Swinburne</strong> subjects in an extensive mode during the mid<br />

year break on the island <strong>of</strong> Crete, Greece. The two<br />

subjects delivered by <strong>Swinburne</strong> academics were<br />

‘Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Communication Practice’ and ‘New Venture<br />

Development Management’. The subjects were chosen<br />

due to their broad appeal to students studying across all<br />

disciplines and hence resulted in a wide cross section <strong>of</strong><br />

students participating.<br />

The School <strong>of</strong> Business has developed a distinctive<br />

International Business degree with mandatory international<br />

student exchange and Industry Based Learning<br />

placements. A total <strong>of</strong> 22 students enrolled in the single<br />

degree and combined Business/Language degrees in 2002.<br />

International Projects and Consultancy<br />

The International Projects Unit completed the following<br />

projects in 2002:<br />

Philippines<br />

■ Revision <strong>of</strong> the Philippines System Accounts –<br />

Australian study program with the Australian Bureau <strong>of</strong><br />

Statistics in Canberra for the Philippines National<br />

Statistics Coordination Board<br />

■ Financial Management Information Systems – Scoping<br />

exercise <strong>of</strong> hardware, s<strong>of</strong>tware and system<br />

requirements for the financial management systems as<br />

part <strong>of</strong> the Philippines Australian Quality Technical<br />

Vocational Education Project<br />

■ Developing Industry Clusters – Facilitated a Search<br />

conference in Manila, an exposure visit to Australia, and<br />

action planning in Mindanao for the Mindanao<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Trade and Industry<br />

■ Citizen Education – For the Galling Pook Foundation<br />

(Philippines) – supported the development <strong>of</strong> a Citizen<br />

Education framework, set up a video facility and<br />

produced a series <strong>of</strong> 10 videos highlighting best<br />

practices in Local Government Units throughout the<br />

Philippines.<br />
