Saudi Arabia<br />

Customised program for the General Organisation for<br />

Technical Education and Vocational Training in Saudi<br />

Arabia with the outcomes being a draft Quality<br />

framework and an implementation plan.<br />

Papua New Guinea<br />

■ Balus Project – Short course series presented in a range<br />

<strong>of</strong> generic management areas for the Civil Aviation<br />

Authority <strong>of</strong> PNG.<br />

Singapore<br />

■ Out <strong>of</strong> School Hours Care – Facilitated a study tour for<br />

Singaporean child care workers<br />

■ Graduate Certificate in Parent Group Leadership –<br />

Delivered in Singapore with 45 graduates.<br />

People’s Republic <strong>of</strong> China<br />

■ Local Government Management Training – Customised<br />

training for Guizhou Local Government with the support<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Maroondah and Yarra Ranges local councils.<br />

French Polynesia<br />

■ Frontline Management – 12 week customised frontline<br />

management program for existing and potential small<br />

business owners/operators from French Polynesia.<br />

Vanuatu<br />

■ Frontline Management – Ongoing program at Certificate<br />

and Diploma levels for the staff <strong>of</strong> the Vanuatu Institute<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Technology</strong>.<br />

Staff from the TAFE and Higher Education Divisions have<br />

been involved in the delivery <strong>of</strong> the programs, many <strong>of</strong><br />

which have been undertaken jointly with Australian and<br />

<strong>of</strong>fshore associates.<br />

Contractors have included International Training Australia,<br />

RMIT International, Philippines Australia Governance Facility,<br />

Philippines Australia Short Term Training Facility, IDP<br />

Vietnam, and the Overseas Projects Corporation <strong>of</strong> Victoria.<br />

Off Shore Delivery<br />

In addition to the <strong>University</strong>’s presence in Sarawak and<br />

Thailand, individual Schools and Divisions continue to build<br />

significant <strong>of</strong>f shore delivery pr<strong>of</strong>iles.<br />

The School <strong>of</strong> Information <strong>Technology</strong> is <strong>of</strong>fering a<br />

program in Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science (Information <strong>Technology</strong>) in<br />

Hong Kong. The program is a partnership with the Hong<br />

Kong Institute <strong>of</strong> Vocational Education (Tsing Yi). <strong>Swinburne</strong><br />

staff deliver the lectures for this program in Hong Kong<br />

and Hong Kong Institute <strong>of</strong> Vocational Education staff<br />

provide the tutorial/ laboratory support. The program is<br />

delivered in block mode, with each subject conducted over<br />

an intensive six-week period. <strong>Swinburne</strong> staff moderate<br />

assignment marking and conduct all exam marking. The<br />

first intake included well over 100 students.<br />

The Australian Graduate School <strong>of</strong> Entrepreneurship<br />

has finalised a licensing agreement to run the Graduate<br />

Diploma <strong>of</strong> Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Singapore,<br />

building on the successful operation to deliver the Master<br />

<strong>of</strong> Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Israel.<br />

Planning for the delivery <strong>of</strong> National School <strong>of</strong> Design<br />

programs in Hong Kong and Singapore is underway. The<br />

School was approached by international providers in these<br />

areas to deliver these programs, an indication <strong>of</strong> the<br />

School’s growing international reputation.<br />

<strong>Swinburne</strong> Lilydale has signed an agreement with the<br />

China <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Mining and <strong>Technology</strong> (CUMT) for<br />

provision <strong>of</strong> the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Business (eCommerce) in<br />

China. Chinese students will undertake two years <strong>of</strong> study<br />

in China followed by two further years <strong>of</strong> study in<br />

Australia. The first students are expected to arrive in 2004.<br />

In the TAFE Division, a Diploma <strong>of</strong> Information <strong>Technology</strong><br />

(Multimedia) was developed for China, and opportunities<br />

for nursing training were explored with the Chinese<br />

Women’s Federation.<br />

Subjects <strong>of</strong>fered at <strong>Swinburne</strong>’s overseas campuses are<br />

being aligned with TAFE Diplomas in computing, network<br />

engineering and s<strong>of</strong>tware engineering. Negotiations are<br />

also underway to <strong>of</strong>fer TAFE eBusiness programs in mixed<br />

online and attendance mode at the Institute <strong>of</strong> Vocational<br />

Education in Hong Kong.<br />
