Apart from those mentioned elsewhere in this report there<br />
have been no events subsequent to balance date that could<br />
materially affect the financial position <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong>.<br />
Consultancies – 2002<br />
Consultancies for 2002 are reported according to the<br />
definition contained in the <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> guidelines:<br />
Consultancy: an arrangement where an individual or<br />
organisation is engaged to:<br />
■ provide expert analysis and advice which facilitates<br />
decision making<br />
■ perform a specific, one-<strong>of</strong>f task or set <strong>of</strong> tasks<br />
■ perform a task involving skills or perspectives which<br />
would not normally be expected to reside within the<br />
agency.<br />
Consultancies less than $100,000<br />
There were 308 consultancies <strong>of</strong> less than $100,000 each<br />
during the year. Expenditure totalled $1,405,180. Details<br />
are available on request.<br />
Declarations <strong>of</strong> Pecuniary Interests<br />
All members, <strong>of</strong>ficers and employees <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> who<br />
are required to complete a declaration <strong>of</strong> pecuniary<br />
interests have been requested to do so. Under the<br />
provisions <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Swinburne</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Technology</strong> Act<br />
1992 members <strong>of</strong> Council must declare any pecuniary<br />
interests they have in matters before Council, and are not<br />
entitled to vote on such matters.<br />
Shares held by Senior Officers<br />
Information on share ownership is provided in the<br />
declarations <strong>of</strong> pecuniary interests.<br />
Statement that Public Funds allocated to the<br />
<strong>University</strong> have been allocated to the purposes<br />
specified by the Government or other public<br />
funding body<br />
Commonwealth and State financial assistance, and<br />
assistance from other public funding bodies during the<br />
reporting period, was expended in accordance with the<br />
purposes for which it was specified.<br />
The <strong>University</strong> has complied with the requirements <strong>of</strong><br />
various programme guidelines that apply to the<br />
Commonwealth and State financial assistance identified in<br />
these financial statements.<br />
Consultancies in excess <strong>of</strong> $100,000<br />
There was one consultancy in excess <strong>of</strong> $100,000 during<br />
the year. This was with Sinclair Knight Merz for pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
services and fees due to design and documentation <strong>of</strong> the<br />
BA Building, Stage 2, and totalled $163,690.<br />
