Andy Tompk<strong>in</strong>s has taken on <strong>the</strong><br />
additional role of show director for<br />
Nielsen Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Media’s Interbike events<br />
and <strong>the</strong> Health+Fitness Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Expo &<br />
Conference. Tompk<strong>in</strong>s was given <strong>the</strong> formal<br />
title of group show director for Action<br />
Sports Retailer (ASR), Cycl<strong>in</strong>g and Fitness<br />
Groups at Nielsen Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Media.<br />
Tompk<strong>in</strong>s will take over <strong>the</strong> Interbike<br />
International Bicycle Expo and OutDoor Demo<br />
shows produced by Nielsen’s Interbike<br />
unit and will cont<strong>in</strong>ue as show director<br />
for ASR. Lance Camisasca, who left<br />
Interbike <strong>in</strong> January to form Lifeboat<br />

Steel, Payne Named EVPs by dmg<br />

San Francisco, CA - Alan Steel was<br />
named executive vice president of<br />
Bus<strong>in</strong>ess-to-Retail, dmg world media<br />
(B2R), a division formed after dmg<br />
completed <strong>the</strong> acquisition of GLM last<br />
October. The B2R division unites GLM’s<br />
operations with all of dmg world media’s<br />
North American gift bus<strong>in</strong>ess on <strong>the</strong> West<br />
coast and <strong>in</strong> Canada, and <strong>the</strong> Surf Expo<br />
group. Prior to this appo<strong>in</strong>tment, Steel<br />
was executive vice president and partner,<br />
GLM.<br />
Ano<strong>the</strong>r top GLM executive, Jack<br />
Withiam, was named senior vice<br />
president and general counsel of dmg<br />
world media, while George “Jeff”<br />
Little II will rema<strong>in</strong> as a strategic adviser<br />
to Steel. All of <strong>the</strong>m will rema<strong>in</strong> based at<br />
<strong>the</strong> GLM office <strong>in</strong> White Pla<strong>in</strong>s, NY.<br />
The company also promoted<br />
Duncan Payne to <strong>the</strong> newly created<br />
position of executive vice-president,<br />
bus<strong>in</strong>ess development where he will assist<br />
<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> plann<strong>in</strong>g of show launches and<br />

Payne, who launched Fitness Expo<br />
and also worked with various dmg shows<br />
and publications <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> United K<strong>in</strong>gdom,<br />
was most recently regional vice president<br />
for dmg’s Home Interest North America<br />
group. He will rema<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Toronto<br />
office.<br />
Mike Cooke, CEO of dmg and also<br />
<strong>the</strong> chairman and president of GLM, said<br />
<strong>the</strong> moves announced May 20 reflected<br />
a thorough recruit<strong>in</strong>g process that took<br />
place after <strong>the</strong> GLM acquisition. dmg<br />
world media produces 300 trade shows,<br />
consumer shows and fairs each year<br />
and publishes 45 related magaz<strong>in</strong>es,<br />
newspapers, directories and market<br />

Nielsen Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Media moved Brian<br />
Pagel, vice president of its Apparel<br />
Group, <strong>in</strong>to a new position as vice<br />
president of <strong>the</strong> Kitchen and Bath Group.<br />
Pagel replaced Cory Smith and took over<br />
management of <strong>the</strong> Kitchen/Bath Industry<br />
<strong>Show</strong> & Conference (K/BIS) and <strong>the</strong> Kitchen<br />
& Bath Bus<strong>in</strong>ess (K+BB) publication.<br />
Pagel jo<strong>in</strong>ed Nielsen <strong>in</strong> 1998 and was<br />
named group show director for Impr<strong>in</strong>ted<br />
Sportswear <strong>Show</strong>s <strong>in</strong> 2005. He became vice<br />
president of <strong>the</strong> Apparel Group last year.<br />

Steve Basnett (CANASA) four<br />
annual shows. Steve<br />
has been with CANASA for two years,<br />
previously as show manager, and has been<br />
<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustry for 18 years. CANASA<br />
organizes four regional shows under <strong>the</strong><br />

Christ<strong>in</strong>a Pappas was named director<br />
of conventions and meet<strong>in</strong>gs at <strong>the</strong><br />

She replaced Sylvia Hall, who<br />
retired <strong>in</strong> February. Pappas was most<br />
recently work<strong>in</strong>g as an <strong>in</strong>dependent<br />

corporations. Her career <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> meet<strong>in</strong>gs<br />
