The Queen Elizabeth II <strong>Graduate</strong> Scholarships in Science and Technology (QEII-GSST)<br />
The Queen Elizabeth II <strong>Graduate</strong> Scholarships in Science and Technology (QEII-GSST) are designed<br />
to reward excellence in graduate studies in the areas of science and technology. The scholarships<br />
consist of funding from the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) matched<br />
by private sector support to the university. Each QEII-OGSST will have a value up to $15,000<br />
annually, or $5,000 per term. Recipients may not hold other major provincial or national awards.<br />
Students must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, be enrolled in full-time research<br />
graduate programs (masters or doctoral level) in science and technology (Environmental and Life<br />
Sciences, Material Science or Applied Modelling & Quantitative Methods), and exhibit overall<br />
<strong>academic</strong> excellence.<br />
Selection of award winners will be made annually by an Awards Subcommittee of the Committee<br />
on <strong>Graduate</strong> Studies.<br />
Donor Supported Scholarships<br />
<strong>Trent</strong> <strong>University</strong> offers a number of graduate scholarships, awards and bursaries. All new students<br />
entering the <strong>University</strong> are automatically considered for internal awards. No separate application is<br />
required. All <strong>University</strong> scholarships/awards may be held in conjunction with awards from outside<br />
agencies when conditions permit.<br />
Sandi Carr <strong>Graduate</strong> Scholarship in Anthropology<br />
Established by the Office of Research & <strong>Graduate</strong> Studies in honour of Sandi Carr, <strong>Graduate</strong> Studies<br />
Officer upon the occasion of her retirement from <strong>Trent</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Awarded annually to a deserving<br />
graduate student enrolled in the Anthropology M.A. program.<br />
Harley Richards Cummings – Canadian Studies <strong>Graduate</strong> Scholarship *<br />
A gift of his wife, Shirley, honours Harley, a respected educator in the Ottawa public schools and<br />
author of Early Days in Haliburton.<br />
Edwin William Curtin and Irene Elizabeth Curtin <strong>Graduate</strong> Scholarship<br />
Awarded to a graduate student in the Environmental and Life Sciences program engaged in research<br />
in Environmental Science. This fund and a fund for the Bata Library are bequests in the Will of Irene<br />
Elizabeth Curtin. The process to obtain this fund is by application.<br />
Eugene Forsey Scholarship<br />
Named in honour of Senator Eugene Forsey, activist and constitutional expert, former Chancellor<br />
of the <strong>University</strong> and member of the Board of Governors. Awarded to deserving students entering<br />
the M.A. Program in Canadian Studies & Indigenous Studies to pursue their work on questions of<br />
importance to the country Eugene Forsey loved so much.<br />
French American Charitable Trust Scholarship<br />
Established by The French American Charitable Trust in Bermuda. Awarded to a student enrolled in<br />
the Environmental and Life Sciences Ph.D. program. The process to obtain this fund is by application.<br />
Jean Evelyn Graves– Canadian Studies <strong>Graduate</strong> Scholarship *<br />
A gift of her friend, Shirley Cummings, honours Jean who was a secondary school teacher and later<br />
was Kingston’s first Guidance Counsellor working for the Kingston Board of Education.<br />
Henry Dyce Howitt – Environmental <strong>Graduate</strong> Scholarship *<br />
Established from the estate of Henry Dyce Howitt who died on September 2, 2000. Awarded to a<br />
graduate student studying in the environmental sciences and entering first year of study at the M.Sc.<br />
level. Preference will be given to holders of an Ontario <strong>Graduate</strong> Scholarship.<br />
Henry Dyce Howitt <strong>Graduate</strong> Scholarship *<br />
Established from the estate of Henry Dyce Howitt who died on September 2, 2000. It was his wish<br />
to encourage outstanding achievement and <strong>academic</strong> excellence with this gift. To be awarded to a<br />
graduate student at the Master’s or Ph.D. level and holding an Ontario <strong>Graduate</strong> Scholarship.<br />
Eugene Kuzmin <strong>Graduate</strong> Scholarship<br />
A gift from the Estate of Eugene Basil Kuzmin of Bobcaygeon. This scholarship is awarded to a<br />
deserving student in any graduate degree program.<br />
Malicorne <strong>Graduate</strong> Scholarship in Modelling *<br />
A gift of an alumnus and his wife. Awarded to a student enrolled in the Applied Modelling &<br />
Quantitative Methods <strong>Graduate</strong> program.
