<strong>Trent</strong> Central Student Association Bursary<br />
A gift of the <strong>Trent</strong> Central Student Association. Awarded to a student in any year who displays<br />
<strong>academic</strong> progress. OSOTF guidelines apply.<br />
<strong>Trent</strong> <strong>University</strong> Alumni Bursary<br />
Established by the <strong>Trent</strong> <strong>University</strong> Alumni Association. Awarded to returning students who have<br />
made a significant contribution to <strong>University</strong> life.<br />
<strong>Trent</strong> <strong>University</strong> S & A Bursaries<br />
Established by the employees of <strong>Trent</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Awarded to students who demonstrate all-round<br />
achievement and character, and are permanent residents of the Province of Ontario.<br />
D. R. Walling Family Bursary<br />
Established by the Walling Corporation of Lindsay. Awarded to students majoring in business or<br />
environmental studies. Based on fitness/health and community involvement.<br />
P. S. B. Wilson Bursary<br />
Established in honour of Paul S. B. Wilson, Director of Athletics. Awarded to a returning student on<br />
the basis of a significant contribution to the athletics program. OSOTF guidelines apply.<br />
Ontario Public Service Employees Union – Local 365 (<strong>Trent</strong>) Bursary<br />
Established by the concerned members of OPSEU local 365 at <strong>Trent</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Awarded to a worthy<br />
undergraduate or graduate student. OSOTF guidelines apply.<br />
EXTERNAL BURSARIES<br />
Many organizations and companies offer bursary assistance to post-secondary students. The following<br />
bursaries are administered through the <strong>Trent</strong> <strong>University</strong> Financial Aid Office.<br />
Leonard Foundation<br />
Bursaries averaging $1,250. Preference will be given to sons and daughters of clergy, teachers,<br />
military personnel, graduates of RMC, members of the Engineering Institute of Canada and the<br />
Mining and Metallurgical Institute of Canada. Application deadline is March 15. Applications are<br />
available through the Financial Aid Office.<br />
Royal Canadian Legion<br />
Bursary assistance of up to $1,000. Awarded to War veterans and their children and grandchildren,<br />
ordinary members of the Legion and their children and grandchildren, associate members of the<br />
Legion and their children, and Ladies Auxiliary members and their children. Awards are determined<br />
by the District Bursary Committee. Applications are available at the Financial Aid Office.<br />
Donor Supported Awards<br />
Financial aid through <strong>Trent</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s award program is designed to acknowledge those students<br />
with outstanding <strong>academic</strong> qualifications and proven financial need. Many of these awards are made<br />
possible through the Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund. In 1996–1997 the Province of Ontario<br />
established the Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund. Fifty percent of this fund is provided by the<br />
Province, and 50% has been raised through fund raising initiatives by the <strong>University</strong>. The trust fund<br />
represents an endowment fund. Annual proceeds from investment earnings are available in the form<br />
of awards to Ontario residents enrolled full-time, part-time or as graduate students. (Refer to specific<br />
OSOTF residency guidelines listed under bursaries.)<br />
Aditya Jha Indigenous Studies Awards<br />
Established by entrepreneur Aditya Jha, founder of Osellus Corporation and the POA Educational<br />
Foundation, in support of undergraduate or graduate students demonstrating financial need as well<br />
as <strong>academic</strong> achievement in Indigenous Studies or their chosen field. Preference will be given to<br />
applicants of Aboriginal heritage. Essay or references may be requested. OTSS guidelines apply.<br />
Bagnani <strong>Graduate</strong> Awards<br />
Established in 1997 by the Dewar Memorial Fund, these annual awards honour the late Professor<br />
Gilbert and Stewart Bagnani. <strong>Graduate</strong> awards will be granted to Ontario students who demonstrate<br />
both <strong>academic</strong> excellence and financial need. Preference will be given to graduate students in<br />
classical (traditional) disciplines of the humanities, especially Classics, Archaeology/ Anthropology,<br />
Ancient History, History, Philosophy and English. OSOTF guidelines apply.
