Petersen Burfield Family <strong>Graduate</strong> Award<br />
This award has been established in memory of Niels and Margaret (Betty) Petersen. It is available to<br />
graduate students in the field of Anthropology. OSOTF guidelines apply.<br />
Robert Darou Norris Prichard Award<br />
Awarded to a full-time graduate student entering final year of Environmental and Life Sciences.<br />
Applicants must demonstrate excellent <strong>academic</strong> achievement and financial need with preference<br />
given to residents of the Counties of Haliburton, Northumberland, Peterborough, Victoria and the<br />
Regional Municipality of Durham. OTSS guidelines apply.<br />
Peter L Roach Award<br />
Established to honour Peter L. Roach, Director of Education from 1975 to 1992, in recognition of<br />
his years of service to the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Roman Catholic<br />
Separate School Board. In selecting the recipient, priority will be given to a student who has studied<br />
in the P.V.N.C. Separate School system and who displays <strong>academic</strong> excellence and financial need.<br />
The funding for this award was provided initially by the employees of the P.V.N.C. Separate School<br />
Board through the For Tomorrow Campaign and by friends and associates of Mr. Peter Roach.<br />
Additional funding was provided by donations to the Ontario Student Opportunity Trust fund.<br />

<strong>University</strong> Women’s 50th Anniversary Award<br />
Established by the <strong>University</strong> Women’s Club of Peterborough (now CFUW Peterborough) in 1987 in<br />
honour of their 50 th anniversary. Awarded to a female student currently registered in first year of a<br />
graduate program who has completed an undergraduate degree at <strong>Trent</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />
Dr. Laura Weintraub Award<br />
Dr. Laura Weintraub was passionately interested in Aboriginal education, specifically the impact of<br />
learning disabilities on Indigenous Canadians and their opportunities to obtain a good education.<br />
This award was established by her friends and family to mark her life and work in this field. Awarded<br />
to a student enrolled in a graduate or post-degree professional program whose <strong>academic</strong> interest<br />
and research is in the area of learning disabilities and/or the learning needs of Aboriginal people.<br />

Helen Whiteside Memorial Award<br />
Established in memory of Helen Whiteside, the first woman to serve as a member of <strong>Trent</strong>’s Board<br />
of Governors. Awarded to a graduate student who demonstrates high <strong>academic</strong> achievement and<br />
financial need and is enrolled in any program. OTSS guidelines apply.<br />
<strong>Graduate</strong> Prizes<br />
CIC Prize in Materials Science<br />
Established by the Peterborough Chapter of the Chemical Institute of Canada, the CIC Prize in<br />
Materials Science will be awarded annually in support of graduate students demonstrating <strong>academic</strong><br />
achievement in the Materials Science program.<br />
John C. McDonald Prize<br />
Established in memory of Professor John C. McDonald, former chairman of the Sociology<br />
department.<br />
Public Texts <strong>Graduate</strong> Prize<br />
Awarded to an outstanding student graduating from the M.A. in English Literature (Public Texts).<br />
Academic Distinctions<br />
President’s Medal<br />
The President’s Medal was established in 2009 to reward <strong>academic</strong> excellence and achievement<br />
of the graduate studies level. The winners are selected from four categories: Master of Arts (social<br />
sciences and humanities), Doctor of Philosophy (social sciences and humanities), Master of Science<br />
(sciences), and Doctor of Philosophy (sciences).
