Management board<br />
Hans-Joachim Watzke has been managing director of <strong>Borussia</strong> <strong>Dortmund</strong><br />
Geschäftsführungs-GmbH since 1 July 2005 and acted as the sole managing<br />
director until 31 December 2005. His field of activity includes "sport," "sales &<br />
marketing," and "communication". Along with managing director Thomas Treß he<br />
was responsible for the restructuring of debts and avoidance of insolvency of the<br />
club in 2006. He studied business administration and graduated as Dipl. Kaufmann.<br />
After his graduation he founded the Watex-Schutz-Bekleidungs-GmbH, a<br />
manufacturer of protective clothing for workers and fire departments located in the<br />
Sauerland and served also as CEO. He has been a member of <strong>Borussia</strong> 09 e.V.<br />
since 1996 and the treasurer of the football club since 2001.<br />

Thomas Treß serves also as the managing director of <strong>Borussia</strong> <strong>Dortmund</strong><br />
Geschäftsführungs-GmbH as of 1 January 2006 and is responsible for "finances"<br />
and "organisation". In addition he acts as the managing director of <strong>BVB</strong> Stadion<br />
Holding GmbH as well as Sports & Bytes GmbH. He graduated as Dipl. Kaufmann<br />
and worked formerly as a chief representative tax advisor and charted auditor for<br />
the auditing company RölfsPartner.<br />

Sporting highlights<br />
The Ballspielverein <strong>Borussia</strong> 09 e.V. <strong>Dortmund</strong> was founded in December 1909<br />
and played in the A Klasse, in former times the highest football division in<br />
Germany. Since then, <strong>Borussia</strong> <strong>Dortmund</strong> achieved numerous sporting successes.<br />
Before the foundation of the Bundesliga in 1963, <strong>Borussia</strong> <strong>Dortmund</strong> won the<br />
German championship twice in a row (1956 and 1957). After 1963, <strong>Borussia</strong><br />
<strong>Dortmund</strong> won the German championship six times altogether and other domestic<br />
competitions like the DFB Cup and DFB Hallenpokal. Not only in domestic<br />
championships but also on international level <strong>Borussia</strong> <strong>Dortmund</strong> proved to be<br />
successful. The first international highlight was achieved in 1967 with victory in the<br />
UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. Further successes followed with victories in the UEFA<br />
Champions League as well as the Intercontinental Cup. Currently <strong>BVB</strong> ranks fifth in<br />
the “ewige Tabelle” (All-time Bundesliga table).<br />
