2. Composition of Industrial Growth
Mumbai-Pune-Nashik: the Corridor of growth:
The three pillars of these golden triangle is established by concentrating on the skilled and labour intensive
industries in the manufacturing sector, especially auto and auto ancillaries, garments, jewellery and gems. As
a result Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and Special Administrative Zones are established to contribute to the
process of rejuvenating the existing industrial parks. A service corridor is established along the Mumbai-Pune
Expressway encompassing industries like retail, healthcare, leisure, IT, biotech and R&D. The strong
agricultural base around Pune and Nashik are being tapped to establish agro-parks for dairy, grapes and
poultry.
Pune has recorded a phenomenal growth in the IT enabled services sector in the last couple of years with
growth in 2003 touching over 50 per cent while the growth in the rest of India stayed stagnant at around 35
per cent. Industry players are now exulting in the fact that the city is now at the number one position in terms
of growth percentage, a distinct change from year 2000 when it was at the bottom of the pile according to the
National Association of Software and Services Companies' figures. With IT majors like Infosys, Wipro,
Kanbay and Zensar betting their money on the city and many BPO 19 companies starting busibess, Pune city is
having an edge over other cities.

economic growth of the state:
