With this, the INDICA has achieved the cash break-even for the fiscal, for the second time since its launch. c. BAJAJ was found in 1944. BAJAJ manufactures motorcycles, scooters, mopeds and three-wheelers, selling them not only across India but in Asia, Latin America and Europe. As a responsible business entity, BAJAJ focuses its social responsible business practices on rural development activities, principally around the areas where it has manufacturing plants. These activities are run directly by the group of companies or through one of several trusts of the BAJAJ group funds. The main trust is the JANKIDEVI BAJAJ GRAM VIKAS SANSTHA Trust (JBGVS) which, was set up over 20 years ago to support local projects in and around the cities of Pune. These have included integrating the development of the SALUMBRE group of villages, including: agriculture extension; the provision of drinking water; education at pre-primary level; establishment of a High School in collaboration with FINOLEX and Rotary Clubs; and health care. The most recent activities of the JBGVS were in cooperation with the Maharashtra Government in its Model Village Scheme in the Pune districts, in the drought area scheme of ZILLA PARISHAD, and the Hunger Project in four villages in the Pune district. In 1995 BAJAJ together with the India Business and Community Partnership Trust, helped the underprivileged young people to set up their own businesses and become entrepreneurs. BAJAJ has also taken a leading role in alleviating pollution by launching 'Eco Friendly Weeks' in several cities. As part of the overall quality improvement drive, BAJAJ has been improving its plants and has consequently been awarded ISO 9001 Certificates for its WALUJ and AKURDI Plants. 5. Entrepreneurship and Training Maharashtra has the strongest HRD infrastructure in terms of educational institutions with 900 engineering colleges and technical institutions with turnout of 160,000 technocrats every year and 30% share of Indian patents. As well Maharashtra has a very high literacy rate at 75%, highest number of patents filed in the State, setting the pace for innovation in the country, and well-diversified and highly productive industrial base with positive work culture. To facilitate entrepreneurship activities MIDC simplified their procedures by compiling the various admin procedures within MIDC for different needs of the entrepreneurs. Each year the Maharashtra Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (MCED), Aurangabad trains 50,000 youth to take up self-employment ventures. MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation) also develops plug-and-play Information Technology entrepreneurship incubation facilities at Navi Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur to encourage first generation software professionals to start their operations quickly. The Sankhya Wahini project of the Government has selected Pune as one of the first level ten cities to be connected over a wide bandwidth network (10 GBPS), which will allow quality education to be delivered through distance education to every connected institution. Students are attached to industries for one year of training in two parts for sandwich courses. Final year project and M.E. dissertations of students are sponsored by industries in many cases. Interaction with industry exists in number of ways. Experts are invited for curriculum development. They are also invited for assessment of theory, laboratory and project work. Experts from industry are involved in academic activities by inviting them as guest faculty and as emeritus Associate Professors. To strengthen the University-Industry link and place the interaction on a more sound footing a Science and Technology Park (STP) has been set up. Environment issues Maharashtra pioneered a package of incentives for the encouragement of industries and the development of backward areas, along with an Industrial Location Policy which sought to restrict industrialization in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region to non-polluting and high-technology sectors as a measure of industrial, urban and environmental planning. Innovation and Learning Innovative financing systems and forward-looking partnerships have been established. One of the most effective schemes is the IT Initiatives Knowledge Corridor, Mumbai Navi-Mumbai-Pune. These schemes are Summarized as follows: 1.
