the year in review undergraduate scholars program Fiscal year 2010 was an exciting, challenging, and successful year for the Undergraduate Program. The 30th annual selection cycle was our most competitive. Nearly 3,500 secondary schools in 56 regions were invited to nominate candidates, including our three new regions: Mississippi, Rhode Island, and the United Kingdom. One hundred and one finalists were identified, and 27 new scholars will come to the University of Virginia as members of the Class of 2014. They will join the 90 Scholars in residence who already contribute to life and culture at the University of Virginia. In addition, the Foundation’s Undergraduate Advisory Committee, chaired by William F. Blue Jr., met multiple times this year to examine aspects of the Undergraduate Program’s selection process as well as the enrichment program. At the suggestion of this committee, a new Faculty Advisory Committee was formed, made up of members of the University faculty. Members of this new committee will work with the Foundation to help recruit new Jefferson Scholars and advise current Scholars. 3
