Chief Tommy Taylor performed a detailed inspection of the Stock<br />
Island detention center, crawling under sinks, using a mirror to inspect<br />
the tops of storage boxes and a flashlight to inspect bathroom<br />

Sheriff’s <strong>Office</strong> announces “Going Green”<br />
The purchase of four hybrid vehicles and the implementation<br />
of county-wide recycling for Sheriff’s <strong>Office</strong>s were just two of the<br />
environmentally friendly efforts announced by the Sheriff’s <strong>Office</strong>.<br />
The office is also going paperless with many of it’s records, is moving<br />
toward on-line training for employees and is using video conferencing<br />
for Sheriff’s staff and other meetings.<br />
Deputies pull man from burning trailer<br />
Deputies Chris Fraser and Rosa DiGiovanni pulled a handicapped<br />
man from a burning trailer in Marathon.<br />
Teen almost shot over gun-shaped belt buckle<br />
A 17 year old on Stock Island was almost shot after a confrontation<br />
with detectives and deputies. The boy was wearing a belt buckle<br />
which was designed to look like a .25 caliber Berretta stuck into his<br />
waistband.<br />

Accident causes bridge closure<br />
An accident involving three cars and a semi-tractor trailer truck<br />
shut down the 7 Mile Bridge for several hours. Three were taken to<br />
area hospitals.<br />
Working with Waste Management, the Sheriff’s <strong>Office</strong> began<br />
recycling efforts county-wide.<br />

the community. The <strong>Office</strong> of Community Relations began using the<br />
social networking site “Twitter” to keep people up to date on crime<br />
news, accidents and other events in the Sheriff’s <strong>Office</strong>. Community<br />

Ten Upper Keys teens were arrested after they participated in<br />
the filming of sexual acts involving an underage girl.<br />
