• Participates in various community programs that enhance<br />
children’s educational and occupational awareness, including the<br />
School to Work Program, Take Stock In Children and the Mentoring<br />
Program.<br />
In <strong>2009</strong>, the Human Resources Division completed and began<br />
using an electronic Employment Application form. Prior to this year,<br />
an electronic Preliminary application was available, but the complete<br />
application had to be filled out on paper. The division also updated<br />
their standard operating procedure manual for background investigators<br />
and consolidated job descriptions for jobs with the same<br />
essential functions.<br />
Emergency<br />
Communications<br />
Emergency Communications is centrally<br />
located in Marathon at the <strong>Monroe</strong> <strong>County</strong><br />
Public Works yard. The department provides<br />
professional and high quality communications<br />
via the MCSO 800 MHz Smartzone radio system<br />
to approximately 32 agencies and 1600<br />
users, this allows for interagency cooperation<br />
Director Laura White and communications on the system throughout<br />
the county. UHF paging services for Fire/<br />
Rescue is provided and maintained, as well<br />
as digital paging and cellular services for county staff. Traffic radar<br />
for most county and state law enforcement agencies in <strong>Monroe</strong> and<br />
South Dade are calibrated and certified through the department on a<br />
bi-annual basis.<br />
The 911 answering equipment is also purchased and maintained<br />
through the Emergency Communications department. The 911 address<br />
database is kept up to date, and caller information verified with<br />
MCSO and KWPD Communications and vendors for accuracy.<br />
In <strong>2009</strong>, the division installed and made operational a countywide<br />
Next Generation E911 call answering system with mapping. A<br />
state-funded grant, not ad valorem funds, paid for the system.<br />
Many more detailed duties are carried out by our highly skilled<br />
staff while responding to everyday and emergency situations. Focusing<br />
