Emphasis is on methods of argumentation and<br />
advocacy including proposition analysis, building the<br />
case, developing the brief, rebuttal and refutation.<br />
Various forms of debate are introduced with directed<br />
experience and application. (GE 8)<br />

COM 211—Intercultural Communication<br />
3 cr. (Spring)<br />
Students study different cultures and the unique ways<br />
in which they communicate verbally and non-verbally.<br />
Includes the interdisciplinary study of cross-cultural<br />
communication theories, practices, and case study<br />
analysis.<br />

COM 213—Popular Culture and the Media<br />
3 cr. (Fall/Spring)<br />
While building on a foundational overview of the<br />
evolution of popular culture, this course examines the<br />
growth and influence of American popular culture<br />
through the latter half of the twentieth century to the<br />
present. In addition to examining various historical<br />
critiques of popular culture, students will explore the<br />
different levels of popular culture, the technological<br />
forms that deliver and influence its content, the<br />
economic and social underpinnings of popular culture,<br />
and the groups and sub-groups that create, borrow, and<br />
consume popular culture in the United States. Case<br />
studies in television, music, film and print will be<br />
offered.<br />

Computer Aided Drafting (CAD)<br />

CAD 101—Introduction to CAD<br />
2 lect., 3 lab., 3 cr.<br />
An introduction to drafting using Autocad<br />
software. Emphasis is placed on drafting, annotating<br />
and dimensioning two dimensional drawings and<br />
composing sheets to be plotted. Emphasis is also<br />
placed on training students to follow verbal<br />
directions. Achieving appropriate lineweight<br />
distinctions when plotting is stressed.<br />
Corequisite: ARC 101, concurrent enrollment in or<br />
completed WRT 040<br />
Prerequisite: MAT 020 or placement into MAT 101<br />

CAD 102—CAD 2<br />
1 lect., 2 lab., 2 cr.<br />
This is an intermediate course using Autodesk<br />
software. Emphasis is placed on data manipulation<br />
and three dimensional drawing, both modeling and<br />
surfacing. Students will also use Revit software to<br />
produce drawings.<br />

COM 215—Conflict Resolution<br />
3 cr. (Fall/Spring)<br />
This course assists students in learning ways to<br />
resolve conflicts in various settings by examining<br />
communication skills in dealing with these conflicts.<br />

COM 217—Introduction to Communication<br />
Disorders<br />
3 cr. (Fall/Spring)<br />
An introduction to the field of communication<br />
disorders. The course includes an overview of normal<br />
and disordered speech and language in children and<br />
adults, the assessment and treatment of disordered<br />
speech, and an examination of career choices.<br />
