Needs Populations, Modern Issues, Transitions,<br />
Thematic Webs, Parent Interactions, Professional<br />
Preparation.* Requires local site observations beyond<br />
college attendance. A grade of C is required to continue<br />
and graduate in the A.A.S. program.<br />

EDU 206—Administration and Management<br />
of Child Care Centers<br />
3 cr. (Spring)<br />
This course is designed to acquaint advanced students<br />
in the early childhood curriculum with practical matters<br />
involved in establishing and maintaining an early<br />
childhood facility. It includes topics such as determining<br />
the need for, and structure of, an early childhood<br />
facility; legal requirements for child care centers and<br />
staff; child selection and grouping; staff recruitment,<br />
development and evaluation; funding and budget<br />
management; interactions with parents and community<br />
organizations; and an introduction to management<br />
techniques. A grade of C or better is required to<br />
continue and graduate in the A.A.S./Certificate<br />
program.<br />
Prerequisite: EDU 101, EDU 102, EDU 201, EDU 203**<br />
EDU 207—Social and Philosophical Foundations<br />
of Education in America<br />
3 lect., 3 cr.<br />
This course examines the social, cultural,<br />
philosophical, historical, ethical and practical aspects<br />
of education in the United States. Current issues, such<br />
as economics and school equity, areas of bias, school<br />
achievement, policies, practices and reform initiatives<br />
will be addressed. Ten hours of field observation<br />
beyond the college classroom are required. Two<br />
meetings of field experience reflection groups will be<br />
scheduled in addition to college classroom hours.<br />
Location and time of these meetings will be studentscheduled<br />
to accommodate the groups’ needs.<br />
Evidence of completion of fingerprinting through NYS<br />
Dept. of Education is required.<br />
Prerequisites: ENG 101<br />
EDU 208—Home, School and Community:<br />
Families and Teachers as Partners<br />
3 cr. (Spring)<br />
This course will address issues in communication,<br />
barriers to effective dialogue, active listening, conflict<br />
resolution, and classroom expectations of families<br />
and teachers. Parenting styles, skills and community,<br />
as well as local resources and referrals will be<br />
considered. Diversity and multicultural awareness and<br />
importance will be stressed and celebrated. A grade of<br />
C or better is required to continue and graduate in the<br />
A.A.S./Certificate program.<br />
Prerequisite: EDU 101<br />
Pre/Corequisite: EDU 102<br />
*NOTE: EDU 203 and EDU 204 require documentation<br />
of a satisfactory physical examination,<br />
negative tuberculin test, chest x-ray as stipulated by<br />
state regulations. Fingerprinting and State Clearance<br />
Registry forms required.<br />
** Students who took EDU 103 MUST meet with<br />
their advisor. Possible waivers MAY be given for certain<br />
EDU courses.<br />
