Alumni rugby team heads to Iceland
T
hunderbird alumni will
compete July 1-8, 2011, in
the Mjöður Old Boys Rugby
Tour in Iceland.
“We will play the one club in the
country, which makes it the national
team,” said Thunderbird Alumni
Rugby Association leader Chuck
Hamilton ’91.
The week will consist of one or
two matches against the Iceland
club and another visiting club from
Europe. On off days the group will
hike, visit museums, and enjoy
Iceland’s volcanic hot springs and 20
hours of daylight.
The alumni team warmed up for
the Iceland trip March 3-6, 2011,
during the Rugby Alumni Weekend
in Glendale, Arizona. In the annual
match against Thunderbird’s student
team, the “Old Boys” fell short, 29-8.
Tim Riesen ’98 scored all the
alumni points with a penalty kick to
draw first blood, and an unconverted
try to end the match. Morgan Siegal
’11 led the student team with his
aggressive play. “He is just a beast,”
Hamilton said.

a dry eye in the place as three cheers
went up for Lynn,” Hamilton said.

for an international potluck
to kick off the new year.
Washington, D.C.:
Capital alumni met Feb.
19, 2011, for the annual
Winter Gala with food, an
open bar with draft beer,
Argentine wines, Chatham
Artillery Punch and Latin
jazz music.
