Latin American
program spreads
worldwide
Don’t be fooled
by the name of
Thunderbird’s
Global MBA for
Latin American Managers.
Although the majority of
students in the dual degree
program come from Latin
America, an increasing number
come from such diverse
places such as Poland, the
Netherlands, Norway and
Canada.
Program director Patricia
A. Breceda ’11 said many
graduates also end up working
outside Latin America.
“I’ve had students get relocated
to Geneva and Zurich,”
she said. “And they credit this
program for much of their
success.”
Overall, the program’s
current cohorts represent
23 countries. Breceda said
some students desire to do
business in Latin America,
others already do business in
the region, and some leave
the region and work in other
parts of the world.
Recently, a student living
With students spread
around the world, face-to-face
classes take place at 15 satellite
receiving sites throughout
seven Latin American
countries, where students and
professors experience a live
teaching experience. Breceda
said the program also will
add an Argentina campus in
the near future.
Since the dual degree
offering launched in 1998
with Tecnológico de Monterrey
in Mexico, nearly 1,500
students have graduated from
the program.
APICS West Coast Student
Case Competition held Feb.
11-12, 2011, in San Diego,
California.
Teams had nine hours to
analyze a fictitious manufacturing
company facing
severe late customer delivery
problems and welding capacity
constraints. They were
told to make recommendations
to the executives of the
company on ways to solve
their problems.
Within the allotted time,
teams had to prepare a twopage
case study paper and
an eight-minute PowerPoint
presentation. They then
presented their cases orally
to a panel of six judges, who
selected two finalists in each
division. Judges for the final
round were chapter leaders
of the APICS Southwest
District.
