Answer any five questions. All questions are of equal marks.<br />
1. Describe the functionalities of the various layers of TCP/IP network<br />
architecture and list the standard protocols supported at the various layers.<br />
2. With respect to network models explain the difference between TCP/IP and<br />
OSI model?<br />
3. Explain the fields in an ATM cell. Why the cells always take a fixed route?<br />
4. Differentiate between the following :<br />
a. Bit rate and Baud rate<br />
b. Virtual circuit and Datagram subnet<br />
c. Basic Rate Interface and Primary Rate Interface with respect to ISDN.<br />
5. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of transparent bridges and source<br />
routing bridges.<br />
6. Discuss in detail the two basic types of ISDN services.<br />
7. Describe the format of TCP header.<br />
8. Describe the various standards, bit rates and modulation techniques used in<br />
modems.<br />
9. Write short notes on :<br />
a. Upward and downward multiplexing<br />
b. MAC Layer<br />
c. Virtual channel identifier<br />
d. Cell relay and Frame relay<br />
10. What do you mean by Stop and Wait mechanism in the context of<br />
retransmission? How does a station seize a token in token ring?
