OUTREACH PROGRAMMES<br />
V. Anitha<br />
o handled training classes on 'Economic and Livelihood Potential of Bamboo'<br />
for the field functionaries of the Bamboo Technical Support Group for<br />
South Zone.<br />
M. Balasundaran<br />
o gave technical help to <strong>Forest</strong> Range Officer, Vellikulangara on Methods of Regeneration<br />
of Sandal.<br />
o took classes for Wood Science and Technology PG students on 'Biotechnological<br />
Detection of Wood Bio-deterioration'.<br />
U.M. Chandrashekara<br />
o took classes to <strong>Forest</strong> Department trainees (<strong>Forest</strong> Guards to IFS probationers'<br />
level) on various aspects of forest conservation and management.<br />
o produced plant propogules of different tree species and bamboo and supplied<br />
at the nominal price to the Government Departments, NGOs and farmers to<br />
promote tree farming both within and outside <strong>Kerala</strong>.<br />
o gave training to farmers and forest staff on management of teak nursery.<br />
T.K. Dhamodaran<br />
o acted as a resource person for various training courses on Bamboo Utilization.<br />
George Mathew<br />
o participated as Resource Person in 'Confluence <strong>2008</strong>-2009' organised by Sree<br />
Narayana College, Alathur on 13-11-<strong>2008</strong> and delivered a talk on 'Butterfly Conservation'.<br />
E.P. Indira<br />
o served as Course Coordinator for Training Programme on Conventional and<br />
Molecular Methods of Tropical Tree Improvement for Higher Productivity to<br />
two Myanmar officials under ITTO funding during 18- 27 November <strong>2008</strong>.<br />
o reviewed many scientific papers for Indian Journal of <strong>Forest</strong>ry and Journal of<br />
Non-timber <strong>Forest</strong> Products.<br />
o as an Examiner, evaluated the Ph.D. thesis of a student of Gandhigram Rural<br />
University during October <strong>2008</strong>. Also conducted the Viva voce examination<br />
for Ph.D. of a student of Bharathiar University in November <strong>2008</strong>.<br />
