Module 1<br />

Causes <strong>of</strong> deterioration in concrete structures – errors in design, construction operations, earthquakes, erosion,<br />

chemical reaction, corrosion, durability, etc.<br />

Causes <strong>of</strong> deterioration in steel structures – corrosion, abrasion, loosening <strong>of</strong> connections, fatigue, impact,<br />

earthquakes, environmental problems, etc.<br />

Preventive measures, maintenance and inspection<br />

ModuleII<br />

Diagnosis and assessment <strong>of</strong> deterioration, visual inspection, non destructive tests, ultrasonic pulse velocity<br />

method, rebound hammer method, pull out tests, Bremer test, Windsor probe test, crack detection techniques,<br />

etc.<br />

Module III<br />

Methods <strong>of</strong> repair <strong>of</strong> cracks, repairing spalling and disintegration, repairing concrete floors and pavements,<br />

repairing <strong>of</strong> corrosion damage <strong>of</strong> reinforced concrete, repair <strong>of</strong> steel structures<br />

Strengthening <strong>of</strong> existing structures, guniting, jacketing, use <strong>of</strong> chemicals, application <strong>of</strong> polymers, ferrocement<br />

and fibre concretes, pre-stressing, surface coatings, painting, water pro<strong>of</strong>ing, grouting, special repairs.<br />

Question Paper: Duration: 3 hours<br />

The question paper consists <strong>of</strong> Part A and Part B.<br />

Part A is for 40 marks. There will be 8 compulsory short answer questions <strong>of</strong> 5 marks each covering entire<br />

syllabus.<br />

Part B is for 60 marks. There will be two questions from each module. The candidate has to answer one<br />

question <strong>of</strong> 20 marks from each module.<br />

Note: No charts, tables, codes are permitted in the Examination hall .If necessary the same shall be given along<br />

with the question paper by the question paper setter.<br />
