San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is a tiny island in the
Biscay Gulf of the Iberian Peninsula connected to
the continent through a bridge over the sea. The
access way to the bridge and the bridge itself are
being endangered by many geologic risks associated
to the water sheds dynamics and the sea
dynamics. This area is exclusively dedicated to
tourism and its infrastructure elements need to
be constantly maintained due to the landslides
provoked by the erosion of the cliff bottom by
action of the tides. The rock is the Black Flysch of
the Basque-Cantabrian basin, aged lower Cretaceous,
90 million of years.
