Tree to 40 m tall, buttressed or unbuttressed. Branches puberulous when young, soon glabrous,<br />

with clusters of large prominent lenticels with central slit. Leaves with stipules lanceolate,<br />

very early caducous; petioles 2–8 mm long, tomentellous when young, terete or slightly<br />

canaliculate, with 2 conspicuous or sometimes obscure glands; lamina thickly coriaceous to<br />

chartaceous, oblong, 4–18 × 1.5–6.5 cm, glabrous above, with stomatal crypts filled with<br />

lanate pubescence beneath, acuminate at apex with tip 3–10 mm long, rounded to subcuneate<br />

at base; midrib plane or slightly impressed and sparsely tomentellous when young above,<br />

prominent beneath; primary veins 16–22 pairs, curved and anastomosing at margins, plane or<br />

prominulous above; secondary nerves reticulate, slightly flattened, with a series of marginal<br />

glands at vein endings on lower portion. Inflorescence of terminal and subterminal panicles,<br />

2–6 cm long; rachis and branches densely tomentose or tomentellous; bracts and bracteoles<br />

large, ovate, 2–2.5 mm long, tomentose on exterior; pedicels 0.2–1.5 mm long. Calyx lobes<br />

triangular, acute, c. 1 mm long, tomentose on exterior, tomentellous within. Petals 5, white,<br />

acute. Fertile stamens 7 or 8, with tooth-like staminodes opposite, lanate around base. Ovary<br />

villous; style villous on lower portion, glabrous above; stigma capitate. Fruit ovoid, 4–6 cm<br />

long; epicarp sparingly to densely lenticellate; mesocarp thin, fleshy; endocarp hard, thick,<br />

marbled, lanate within.<br />
