Tree to 40 m tall, trunk low thick buttressed to 2 m. Branches minutely tomentellous when<br />

young, glabrescent, conspicuously prominently lenticellate. Leaves with stipules ovate to<br />

lanceolate, acute, 3–5 mm long, pilose on exterior, early caducous; petioles 9–17 mm long,<br />

thick, tomentellous when young, glabrescent, eglandular or glandular; lamina coriaceous,<br />

elliptic to oblong, 14–23 × 4–9 cm, glabrous above, with stomatal cavities filled with grey<br />

lanate pubescence beneath, shortly acuminate at apex with tip 3–13 mm long, rounded to<br />

subcordate at base; midrib plane above, glabrous when mature except at base, prominent,<br />

glabrescent beneath; primary veins 23–35 pairs, erect, plane above, flattened and prominent<br />

beneath; secondary veins prominulous and parallel (±ladder-like) beneath. Inflorescences of<br />

large spreading terminal panicles, 10–21 cm long, 7–12 cm broad; rachis and branches<br />

yellow-grey tomentellous; bracts and bracteoles ovate, 3 mm long, early caducous.<br />

Receptacle campanulate, slightly gibbous, 3 mm long, densely grey tomentose on exterior;<br />

pedicels 1–3 mm long; calyx lobes ovate, acute, 1.5–2 mm long, unequal, grey tomentose.<br />

Petals white to bluish, lanceolate to spathulate, narrowed towards base, c. 2 mm long, glabrous.<br />

Stamens 8–10, with tooth-like staminodes opposite. Ovary pilose; style glabrous; stigma<br />

truncate. Fruit ellipsoid, 5–9 × 3–4 cm; epicarp densely lenticellate; mesocarp 1.5–2 mm<br />

thick; endocarp hard, thick, marbled, 7–13 mm thick, fibrous, densely lanate within.<br />
