One of the most common areas of concern for residents is animal registration. The requirements for animal registration are briefly outlined below: dog and cat registration New state laws which come into effect in December 2010 will require all dogs and cats to be registered with council and certain categories to be micro-chipped. Micro-chipping can be arranged with your vet. For information regarding new laws and categories contact the Customer Service Centre. Registering a dog or cat for the first time The first time you register an animal with council you need to do so in person at one of the Customer Service Centres. You will need to bring your pension card, proof of the animal’s age (if the animal is under six months of age) and proof of sterilisation if applicable. You will be given a lifetime tag that needs to be displayed on the animal’s collar. If this tag is lost at any time, a replacement can be obtained from council for a small fee. Renewing your animal registration – annually Dog and cat registrations are required to be renewed annually. Renewal papers will be posted to your registered postal address.
