Rape Crisis Program 342-1600<br />
Access to the program is through the Abuse and Assault Hotline (342-1600) which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a<br />
week. Collect calls from within the county are accepted. The program provides crisis advocacy to survivors of sexual<br />
assault by meeting them at hospital emergency rooms and/or law enforcement department offices. Follow-up advocacy,<br />
referral and case management services are also available. <strong>Services</strong> are available to both victims of violence and their<br />
personal support systems. Individual and group counseling is available to assist participants to cope with the effects of<br />
abuse. Staff are entitled to the Rape Crisis Counselor Legal Privilege. <strong>Community</strong> education is available on topics<br />
relating to sexual abuse of adults and children, sexual harassment, and stalking as well as other related topics.<br />
SAF House - The SAF House provides a temporary home for women and children who are escaping emotional, physical<br />
or sexual abuse. Women and children experiencing homelessness are also eligible to enter the house. Residential<br />
services can be accessed through the Abuse and Assault Hotline (342-1600) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The<br />
program provides emotional support, assistance with locating and securing safe, affordable housing, transportation to<br />
appointments limited child care, referrals and linkage to other community agencies, legal information about custody,<br />
orders of protection, and other family court issues. Individual and group counseling is available to both women and<br />
children residing at the SAF House.<br />
Victim Support Project 342-1600<br />
Access to the Project is through the Abuse and Assault Hotline (342-1600) or at 349-8519 during business hours. Staff<br />
also maintain hours at the <strong>Oswego</strong> <strong>County</strong> Integrated Domestic Violence Court, the Domestic Violence Court in the City<br />
of <strong>Oswego</strong>, the <strong>Oswego</strong> <strong>County</strong> Sex Offenses Court, the <strong>Oswego</strong> <strong>County</strong> Family Court, the <strong>Oswego</strong> <strong>County</strong> Probation<br />
Office, and the <strong>Oswego</strong> <strong>County</strong> District Attorney’s Office. The Project provides advocacy to survivors of domestic<br />
violence and/or sexual assault. <strong>Services</strong> include petition preparation, emotional support through the justice system,<br />
assistance with restitution, follow-up advocacy, referral, and case management services. With advance notice, staff can<br />
accompany survivors to court proceedings.<br />

SERVICES: The Victim Intervention Program (VIP) is an office-based therapeutic counseling program for children who have been<br />
sexually abused or have experienced some form of trauma. The treatment model employs a family system approach where<br />
siblings and family members may also be seen during sessions. A pre requisite for VIP is an open Preventive <strong>Services</strong> Case, and<br />
referrals come directly from the Department of Social <strong>Services</strong>.<br />
