3. Physical Security<br />

a. Provide locking mechanism designed to maintain building security and prevent<br />

unauthorized access from exterior.<br />

b. For doors not requiring access from the exterior, provide no exposed exterior<br />

hardware.<br />

c. Provide code-compliant factory preparation for all security and alarm components,<br />

including wiring, in exterior oversize doors, frames and hardware.<br />

D. Structure<br />

1. Lintels: Constructed to span door openings and support loads imposed by exterior wall<br />

with maximum deflection vertically and horizontally <strong>of</strong> 1/240 <strong>of</strong> span.<br />

2. Door frames: Constructed to span door opening with maximum deflection vertically and<br />

horizontally <strong>of</strong> 1/240 <strong>of</strong> span.<br />

E. Durability<br />

1. Water penetration: Construct openings and components <strong>of</strong> openings to positively drain<br />

water to exterior <strong>of</strong> the building.<br />

a. Top <strong>of</strong> openings: If wall construction does not provide its own methods <strong>of</strong> drainage,<br />

use separate flashing to prevent water from entering opening components or the<br />

interior <strong>of</strong> the building.<br />

b. Bottom <strong>of</strong> openings: Integral or separate sill or flashing to prevent water running<br />

over or draining out <strong>of</strong> opening components from entering the wall construction<br />

below or the interior <strong>of</strong> the building.<br />

2. Flexible seal materials: Minimize deterioration due to operation <strong>of</strong> doors and aging.<br />

3. Swinging doors: Control door swing to prevent damage due to impact, to either door or<br />

element impacted.<br />

F. Operation and Maintenance<br />

1. Service life span <strong>of</strong> operating components: Remaining operable for service life <strong>of</strong><br />

enclosure elements specified in Section B20 under normal exposure conditions for the<br />

project site.<br />

2. Ease <strong>of</strong> use and repair: Provide oversize doors that will be easy to use by occupants, easy<br />

to repair or service, and with operating components easy to replace.<br />

A. Overhead Coiling Doors<br />

1. Basis <strong>of</strong> Design: 625 Series Insulated Service Door by Overhead Door Corporation<br />

B. Oversize Structural Steel Doors<br />

1. Basis <strong>of</strong> Design: Ambico structural galvanized steel doors and frames.<br />

2. Provide keyed removable mullions at double doors.<br />
