2.1.2 Krak Shrok Tatch<strong>in</strong>/Katkdi<br />
A Krak Shrok Tatch<strong>in</strong> is village elder or Teungkang Krak the villagers believe <strong>in</strong><br />
and trust based on their knowledge of customary rules and spirit of fairness <strong>in</strong><br />
solv<strong>in</strong>g disputes. There is no obligation to appo<strong>in</strong>t or nom<strong>in</strong>ate a Krak Shrok<br />
Tatch<strong>in</strong>, however, a person can become a Krak Shrok Tatch<strong>in</strong> if many villagers<br />
come to ask for his help <strong>in</strong> dispute settlement and he possesses a history of<br />
successful resolutions accepted by both conflict<strong>in</strong>g parties. Currently, the village<br />
has only one Krak Shrok Tatch<strong>in</strong>, but there are many Teungkang Krak who jo<strong>in</strong><br />
him whenever he conducts a hear<strong>in</strong>g. Apart from conflict resolution tasks,<br />
a Krak Shrok Tatch<strong>in</strong> plays a role <strong>in</strong> aid<strong>in</strong>g the group of elders <strong>in</strong> organis<strong>in</strong>g<br />
ceremonies <strong>in</strong> the community.<br />
