Sen Preh Unh (fire sacrifice)<br />
After clear<strong>in</strong>g all the bushes and trees, villagers burn the area and collect all the<br />
rema<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g unburned wood. They collect any small half-burnt wood pieces to<br />
be used <strong>in</strong> a sacrifice called Sen Preh Unh and ask for the healthy growth of<br />
their plants. As <strong>in</strong> other ceremonies, the sacrifice is a chicken and w<strong>in</strong>e. F<strong>in</strong>ally<br />
they burn the rest of the collected wood. Historically all villagers gather to<br />
perform this sacrifice together.<br />
Sroch Chateu<br />
When farmers prepare seeds for plantation, they perform a sacrific<strong>in</strong>g<br />
ceremony ask<strong>in</strong>g that their seeds grow well and reap good produce. As <strong>in</strong> other<br />
ceremonies they do this us<strong>in</strong>g chicken and w<strong>in</strong>e.<br />
Banh Cheh Teuk<br />
In the middle of the rice production period, the farmer needs to hold another<br />
sacrifice to request that the rice cont<strong>in</strong>ues to grow free from destruction by<br />
termites or rats. As <strong>in</strong> other ceremonies this is done us<strong>in</strong>g chicken and w<strong>in</strong>e.<br />
Banh Cheh Tum<br />
When the rice is ready for harvest<strong>in</strong>g, the farmer sacrifices a rooster and a hen<br />
with a jar of w<strong>in</strong>e to the spirits ask<strong>in</strong>g for well wishes dur<strong>in</strong>g the harvest.<br />
Banh Pateuk Pateus<br />
This is the last ceremony of the rice plantation calendar, and is held at the<br />
time when all harvested rice is brought <strong>in</strong>to storage.<br />
Other smaller ceremonies<br />
Tatasrast<br />
The villagers conduct this ceremony with the purpose of reject<strong>in</strong>g all bad luck<br />
and ill fortune to the rice and owners whose property and rice are damaged<br />
by fire or animals. As <strong>in</strong> other ceremonies they do this us<strong>in</strong>g chicken and w<strong>in</strong>e.<br />
Chicken blood is mixed with w<strong>in</strong>e and showered on the site where the fire<br />
burned or the cattle grazed. This sacrifice is performed by those responsible<br />
for the fire or the owners of the cattle that ate rice from another’s farm.<br />
