<strong>of</strong> deaths and injuries on roads, promote road safety as a health,<br />
transp<strong>or</strong>tation, law enf<strong>or</strong>cement, education and development<br />
pri<strong>or</strong>ity f<strong>or</strong> Tanzania, strengthen pre-hospital and emergency<br />
services in <strong>or</strong>der to provide timely and appropriate care to road<br />
traffic injured patients to minimize their effects and long – term<br />
disability.<br />
1.6 <strong>Road</strong> safety policy f<strong>or</strong>mulation process<br />
To give the necessary framew<strong>or</strong>k f<strong>or</strong> the policy, a description is<br />
also given on current activities, and special considerations are<br />
highlighted. In the absence <strong>of</strong> a comprehensive database, this<br />
policy has been f<strong>or</strong>mulated with the data available and the solid<br />
input <strong>of</strong> all the relevant players and stakeholders. Over time, as<br />
improvement in the collection, management and use <strong>of</strong> data on<br />
road fatalities and injuries and data reflect a m<strong>or</strong>e scientific base<br />
and facilitate greater analysis, the policy should be reviewed at fiveyear<br />
intervals, with a view to achieving greater focus and providing<br />
the opp<strong>or</strong>tunity to inc<strong>or</strong>p<strong>or</strong>ate m<strong>or</strong>e accurate inf<strong>or</strong>mation.<br />
