Power of Playback teaches easy-to-use improvisational <strong>the</strong>ater techniques <strong>for</strong> enacting stories. Your students will expand listening<br />

and per<strong>for</strong>mance skills, explore sequencing through scene development, and enjoy <strong>the</strong> rewards of creative team play.<br />

MANDALAS OF POETRY<br />

Mandalas of Poetry applies ma<strong>the</strong>matical relationships to <strong>the</strong> design and <strong>for</strong>m of circle drawings. This approach to discovery learning<br />

also integrates creative writing to give <strong>the</strong> dynamics of literary expression to <strong>the</strong> visual art. Builds vocabulary and creative thinking skills.<br />

MASKPOWER<br />

For teachers of grades 6-12 • Integrating arts across <strong>the</strong> curriculum • Florida State Standards provided upon request<br />

MaskPower teaches simple methods of constructing half-masks <strong>for</strong> increasing vocabulary, comprehension and presentation skills. Masks<br />

become a stimulus <strong>for</strong> creating stories, poems and short plays and are a fun and easy way <strong>for</strong> building FCAT skills.<br />

YOUR FACILITATOR: Darby Hayes, M. Ed. is a seasoned Arts Integration Specialist whose Arts Train programs facilitate vital<br />

academic and social skills learning. She holds certification in Playback Theater, Classical Mime and Transpersonal Psychology.<br />

She is one of a select few chosen by <strong>the</strong> John F. Kennedy <strong>Center</strong> to lead <strong>the</strong>ir teacher workshops. Darby is a multiple grant<br />

recipient where her expertise in curriculum design serves to enrich learning environments and raise student achievement levels.<br />

STRETCHING BODIES AND IMAGINATIONS<br />

For teachers of grades pre k-6<br />

Learn <strong>the</strong> skills, knowledge and vocabulary necessary to successfully lead students in an array of creative movement activities. Stretching<br />

Bodies and Imaginations cultivates articulate body mechanics, cooperative learning, arts appreciation, cultural awareness and locomotor/<br />

axial movement skill building. Auditory, visual and kines<strong>the</strong>tic learning modalities are brought “into play” making <strong>the</strong> learning of academic<br />

concepts fun. Puppets, poems, props and cultural attire add a festive flair to make addressing <strong>the</strong> Sunshine State Standards enjoyable.<br />

DANCING THROUGH THE DECADES<br />

For teachers of grades 3-12<br />

Participants learn solo and partner dances reflective of <strong>the</strong> decades of <strong>the</strong> 20th century. Learn <strong>the</strong> Charleston, Shim Sham,<br />

Soft Shoe, Single Swing, Triple Swing, Jitterbug, Hand Jive, Monkey, Pony, Swim, Skate, Locomotion, Fly, Disco Hustle, Moonwalk,<br />

Robot, Cabbage Patch and much, much more. This energetic workshop is infused with a plethora of in<strong>for</strong>mation, costumes and<br />

props that reflect <strong>the</strong> history and pop culture surrounding each of <strong>the</strong> decades. Everything old is new again!<br />

YOUR FACILITATOR: Dawn Preuss has more than 30 years experience as a researcher, choreographer, per<strong>for</strong>mer and teacher of dance<br />

throughout <strong>the</strong> country and abroad. She is certified in dance education grades K-12. Her professional credits include work in television,<br />
