DEAR EDUCATOR:
WELCOME TO OUR EXCITING 19 th SEASON. In 1991, we began the Student
Enrichment in the Arts (SEAS) program. What a difference those 18 years have made.
MORE THAN 2 MILLION STUDENTS have attended professional, world-class performances that
are FREE to all Broward County Public School students K-12, including those with special needs.
THE SCHOOL DISTRICT’S READING INITIATIVE FOR 2009-2010 will be the focus of SEAS
programming this year. The performances will integrate Reading, Literature and Language Arts
with the Florida Sunshine State Standards curriculum connections and the FCAT Reading Topics.

STUDY GUIDES AND RESOURCE MATERIALS are distributed to each teacher prior to
attending performances with their students.
EVALUATION FORMS are distributed at each performance. Narratives on how a
performance was integrated within the classroom curriculum are requested.
TRANSPORTATION COSTS are partially subsidized by the school district. Schools are
responsible for 50 percent of transportation costs with the support of their community
partnerships and parent organizations.

VSA ARTS – BROWARD, THE ANNUAL VERY SPECIAL ARTS FESTIVAL, will again be
presented by the SEAS program, bringing together students with, and without, disabilities
to work and learn through the arts.
BANK OF AMERICA CULTURAL ADVENTURES FOR TEACHERS are bringing new
levels of teamwork and creativity into the classroom to help use the arts as learning tools
for student achievement.
THE ARTS FOR THE FUTURE SCHOLARSHIP FUND provides scholarships to graduating
seniors in Broward County Public Schools. Each year over $60,000 is awarded to students who
will pursue the arts in their post secondary education.
SEAS READING RESIDENCIES ensures that all Title One second and fourth grade students in
Broward County Schools will attend performances of selected stories from the district Basal
Reading Curriculum. The Reading Curriculum Trainers, Reading Resource Specialists and classroom
teachers at each elementary school will use the performance to improve plot development,
story sequencing, and inference skills for reading achievement.
SEAS PLUS, through the Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District, will provide expanded opportunities
for students attending SEAS performances at the Broward Center. Students will have the opportunity
to visit the cultural sites along the Riverwalk either before or after the SEAS performance. This will
enable them to spend an entire school day learning through the arts in many different ways.
